I’m waiting on a tail loop and seat pan/electronics tray and then I’ll post some photos, I’d ike to start a ‘build thread’ but my progression seems to move at a snails pace.

Daniel.

yes Zeds right you should still do a build thread. Custom mod work always takes a lot longer than repairs and upgrades as it involves a lot of R&D and design .
I saw a brand new tail loop on ebay only the other day worth a look .

I might resurrect my old thread with the changes I've been making lately - Johnny, you might find it helpful. A lot of the LED work was simple but repetitive, and I'm glad I invested in decent crimps. And last night I completed the changes to the electrics, and it all worked!
Dan's changes are in a different league! I hope to do some of that stuff one day, and Dan - don't worry about the pace, just keep us in the picture. We like pictures :)

We have some great roads round here, A272, A32 and so many B roads with hardly any traffic even in the summer. Having lived in the area all my life I know some cracking routes around Hampshire and West Sussex.

Here’s a little sneak peak of a rough mock up of myloose front end, I feel bad not posting a single photo ☹️

The levers will be raw alloy like the mounts, bars to match ripple trees, fork stancions will be black nitride coated and fork lowers will be flat black.

Another photo of a preliminary mock-up, the tail loop will be shortened and bent more to follow the curve of the seat fluidily.

The front end seem in the previous photo is yet to be mounted but you get the idea.

Note the R6 filler cap located in the ‘79 special tank.

Daniel.

very nice ...really like the seat loop arrangement ....looks great although i'd prefer a little more padding at my age lol

Love the tank ...I bought a XS750 tank last year with the intention of doing the same mod but never got around to it. Did you take any pics of how you went about it ?

There are several build threads (mine included) that have been going on for years. I suspect one of mine will make the decade mark....

Just found this thread. Usually too busy reading up on all the helpful info. Great site.
I am in Bedfordshire and as of yet not seen another local XS on the road.
Will be attending Cassington on the 24th June, didn't see any there last year either.

Hi Eugene.
welcome to the forum

Theres a few Brits on here as well as many expats .

Will you be riding The 'Distinquished Gentlemens' ride this year ? you'll see plenty of XS650 there for sure.

We should do a head count and see where we all are in the UK. Some of us are a bit spread out .
Post a picture of your bike and tell us a little about yourself ;)

Doh...
Pic posted twice, cant get the hang of this modern tech........
Unfortunately away for the Distinguished Gentlemens ride.
She's a 1980 SH I believe, American import in the late 90's.
Had a HALCO recon engine fitted, on a standard bore. I have owned her now for just over 3 years. It wasnt the model I was looking for as I really dont like the rear light assembly in the rear of the seat unit. But hey ho it was too close to home and a good price so off we went.
First job was to remove and replace the rear end, new guard, light and seat unit and then changed the "silencers" for the pea shooters.
Since then I've done all the usual mods and up grades on the engine and forks. I did the carbs before reading the very informative thread on this site about all the grief others have had. I must say, touch wood, that they have been very good. Leaked at first, needed cleaning out once as well but overall very snappy and they make her BARK..................Side panels knocked up to keep the messy bits covered. Still a few more jobs to do as ever ongoing.
Her last year now for an MOT.

your bike should have been eligible for Historic vehicle status and no MOT or TAX ....last year !;)

I would apply again now as I have just been given Historic status with my 79 xs650 by DVLA last week.
The DVLA go by the manufacture date not the registration date and it runs from April of each year not January so yours is eligible from April this year.
If you look at your head tube your bike might still have the plastic label attached with the manufacture date.

I'll post all the documents I sent in for my application tomorrow

Love the seat it looks very comfortable as well as stylish. Glad you kept the bars ...I find they give a very laid back riding style and a lot less vibration
