I replied in a thread I started over the seat foam which is a one year only.....but figured I would start a new thread for the gas cap gaskets.

My 1973 TX650 is in need of the gas cap gaskets, the one "long" o-ring type thing and the one that goes around the metal disc that touches the tank. I am assuming the 1973 is a ONE YEAR ONLY gas cap...just like the seat. I cannot tell if the 1972 TX650 has the same gas cap or not.

DogBunny posted the TX650 specific parts manual showing the correct seat with part numbers. He also posted along with it the fuel tank section....but part numbers not included. I would love a link or a pdf if someone has it of the TX650 specific parts manual. Tired of banging my head against the wall every time I need something.

Those won't work on my 73 I don't think. Looks like I might be missing some parts to my gas cap???

I ordered the KDI Reproduction kit once I found the correct part numbers. I've done some CT3 and LT2 caps before....seems like I remember more parts to the cap and parts manual shows more as well.

There is a huge lip that is supposed to be on the underside of the gasket in your pics that is missing, but the cap works without, and your cap is otherwise complete.
What really matters is the part of the gasket that contacts the neck on the tank, and that part on the gasket in your pictures is in perfectly usable condition, and will probably out-last the reproduction that you just ordered from eBay.

That existing gasket on my cap is hard as a brick. Gas stains on tank from previous owner. The cap does not seem to shut down very tight....I'm afraid it will leak, even with new gaskets. That "lip" you are talking about is for the 1974 versions. I believe there is a whole "nother" disc that goes on top of the base disc that helps push the whole assy down onto the tank flange. I might just be able to get a thicker gasket/O-ring and get it sealed up that way.

I contacted the guy who sells the complete caps on ebay (though he is out).....sent him pics. His response "I'm not familiar with that kind of cap. Good luck."

Just want to at least have a basis on what I have vs what I'm supposed to have. Man, these one year only bikes can get the best of you. 3 hours of research so far just on the cap.

You might be right about your old gasket being hard and leaking. But 1973-1975 caps are all the same. You aren't missing anything, just the big, non-critical lip I mentioned.
The thumbnail below has the part numbers for that 1973 seat diagram that included the gas cap that I posted in your seat thread. You should find that the parts and numbers are identical to the 1974 Partzilla diagram link that I provided.

I ordered the Viton orings. Going to give that a shot. I'm also going to try them as exhaust gaskets on another bike I have!! They are rated to 500 degrees.
