Another build thread

Did you rotate the crank to get the cam off the valve before looking (on all of 'em). The pic of the rt. intake actually looks like it's open. Pics aren't that good (no offense ) so it's hard to tell...
Best way to know for sure your valve condition (other than disassembly) is to do a compression check.

Ok I'll do that next. Thanks for that. Obviously I'm new to this. That looks like a lot of carbon build up. Given the metal shavings in my oil I think I'm destined to take the top end apart anyway. Seems like a good idea to give them a cleaning?

Looks like I'll be in for some new handle bars and/or a longer throttle cable too.

Really? Ok. That's actually a bit of good news I suppose. Yeah it runs, I've been riding it around a little bit just messing with the carbs and timing. I guess I'll keep going down skulls checklist and get a compression check, check electrical, etc. What about the throttle cable rig? I certainly don't want to do any more damage the PO may have done.

The site is back up! The xs Bible of knowledge is accessible again! lol

Just to keep y'all up to date, I cleaned my carbs really well. I completely disassembled and used parts cleaner and compressed air on every orifice. I took the right side cover off to examine if there was any metal shavings and my kick start came shooting out so that was fun to learn how to play back together (although I'm wondering why it shot out like that because now it seems relatively secure). I can crank it just fine.

I did NOT notice any metal shavings on my sump filter or in the oil that was in that area. Not sure what that means.:shrug:

I also rerouted my throttle cable and got plenty of room where they seat nicely in the top of each carb. I'll have to do more research to find out if that will affect throttle response. Each cable still seems firm with slight play.

I also replaced a couple fuel lines while I was at it (made sure they were at a steady angle downward from the petcock to each carb).

I changed the oil but I have not run fuel through yet because I ordered the jets based on the specs on the PDF floating around you guys have provided. Once I get those swapped out, I'll get her running again and work on the timing and tuning and reaccess.

Thanks again for everyone's help. I'm enjoying working on this thing so far.
