What have you done to your XS today?

XS750 petcocks same as XS650 ?
What year 79? Cafetools needs that confirmed asap please?
Hang out there Cafetools salvage yards are fun !

I am looking at getting these dual petcocks off this 750 1980.

They look like there vacuum though, but it might be worth it consider g mine leak.

On my phone that pic shows a little more rust/weather patina than I would go for. There may be good intank screens in there ? Petcock Internal parts may be good ? Id still recommend Ebay, 78E petcocks for your 79F

How about these dual petcocks, no vacuum. Will they fit my 79f?

I'm at the wreckers. Will these 750 petcocks fit my standard 79f? I have dual petcocks. But I am concerned about the diameter between the bolts.
I bet they will work. Mike's XS shows a manual petcock for 78-83 XS's w/ mounting holes being 46mm apart (center to center) and this also works on a '79 xs750. In his listing he shows a '78 XS650E, but not an F (But I am pretty sure that the '78 & '79 standards share the same tank). Depending on the cost, may be worth picking them up...

Didnt get those petcocks, but did get a starter button (and spring) , two very nice petcock pre filters, and some aluminum TX badges!

Picked up a set of stickers I commissioned from a local shop for my '74 and applied them. It came to me with no factory paint at all so got a splash of green applied for interest and an acknowledgement that this model may have been in some markets, offered in "Vegas Green" in addition to root beer metallic. From my research about that green colour it seems it was not as vibrant as its name suggests.

Hmmm...
Maybe shoulda got the lettering in black....
Oh well, I have a nice pair of round tuning fork medallions for the tank.

Ok, I just ordered the EMGO “commando” style mufflers from amazon, 52.00 a piece! (Don’t you just love how amazon’s prices change almost daily? NOT) I had to scoop them up at that price. I went to the auto parts store yesterday to gather everything I’ll need to get her ready to ride; new plugs, fuel line/filters, carb cleaner. It’s finally warming up here; should be 30’s to 40’s this weekend and next week. Question about oil- since I’m planning on riding the bike this summer despite the cam chain guide wearing into the oil, I am anticipating I’m going to be changing the oil more frequently. I got the heiden tuning “oil cooler” with the replacable honda paper element filter from mike’s specifically because I’m hoping that will help keep the aluminum at bay. I’ve been using this mobil1 synthetic-

which is expensive AF at almost 12.00 a quart. Can anyone attest to any experience using castrol

or Lucas?

If I’m going to be changing the oil more frequently, cutting 3-4 dollars off each quart is really gonna save.

Since I don't get a discount anymore, I don't use Bel Ray. I changed to Castrol M/C oil and it seems to work good.
I also change oil yearly or every 2k miles which ever comes 1st. Usually yearly comes 1st anymore, (unfortunately)
I should mention that I have been using Castrol in all my 'cagers' for 50+ years.

YEARLY OR EVERY 2K? I’ve been changing mine every 1k. Have I been doing it too often? If not how are you getting away with that?

there was a quote on my Sportster forum that states: ( to paraphrase) If you want a good oil for your motorcycle, find a Harley guy.
He changes his oil every 1k miles.
To answer you question, it depends on how hard and long you ride it. If you are gentle on your 40 year old bike, I'd say change
it when you want too.
