Starter Motor Gear Cover

Hi Guys,

Could someone please advise in regards to removing the gear cover plate, by removing the cover plate is any starter gears going to be impacted by removing the cover?
I presently have an oil leak dripping from the under side of the cover plate.
I note that there is a shaft on inside of the cover. I have a gasket and sealastic to stop the leak. I know i have to drain the engine oil prior to removing the cover.

Yes some of the gears may come out with the cover but you should be able to reinstate them without further dismantling the engine.
Before you start are you sure the leak is coming from there.
Common leaks in that area of the bike are the clutch push rod seal and the sprocket seal. If the sprocket is loose ( and they do back off even with the lock tab washer) they can leak.
If your oil is new lie the bike on its side on a mattress and you wont have to drain it.

I wouldn't use any gasket sealer on the gasket.
Get the sealing surfaces clean and use a thin coat of anti-seize or grease. This will seal just as good and let you remove it next time. Some even use motor oil.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty sure its leaking from the cover plate, had the bike running and placed a camera underneath the engine and filmed it. Only leaks when the engine is running.
Would you believe its the only plate i didn't touch when rebuilding the engine!!!

Clutch pushrod seal sees oil pressure when the engine is running...

I've had several of those plates leak. The screw at the top that also holds the shift shaft guard is a typical problem area for that cover. I use some hylomar when assembling. check and clean the case threads for the screws. If any screws don't look great the next length up at the hardware store will usually work maybe with a washer if dry assembly shows it's a touch long.
