I’m after any engineering brains input of the above.

I’m using RD400 E/F wheels on my build, I love the look of the drilled out spokes (I’ve seen a member on here went a step further and and drilled out the lower part of the rim to!)

My question is this, how do you guys feel about using wheels that have had this work done being used for track day use, is it ‘structurally sound’?

Thanks for any knowledge shared

Daniel.

Hey---I have no engineering brains but I have a good drill set. Never been to a track day but have run drilled mags on a couple of Xs's. As a matter of fact I'm building another one with drilled mags. I've never had an issue but I'm sure others may disagree with modifying the wheels.Good luck.

1st consideration is insurance...............Over here if any modification is done to a vehicle and the insurance company is not notified of the modification then the Insurance policy is null in-void............

The wheels are built to a standard, over-engineered, maybe, any holes drilled especially along the rim ribbing could lead to the rim failure. If smaller holes were used then it may not make a difference but some of those holes are so close to the outside edge i would be concerned about cracking, the original structural integrity is compromised. Especially where those holes are 1/2 way between the spokes as that will be the weakest area on the rim.

Personal choice. just my :twocents:

I'm sure i'll get flamed for this comment..........

Thanks for the replies solo2racr & 650Skull!

It’s something that’s been in the back of my mind since I first saw this work done and wanted it done for my build. i just thought I’d get a view opinions to satisfy me. Better safe than sorry!

Cheers again guys!
