electronic ignition

Nope. If you can keep your points ignition in good shape.

I'll differ on this one. Both points and the mechanical advance have shortcomings. In good condition the stock TCI is a good system. there are several good aftermarket ignitions, all offer improved accuracy and ease of starting compared to points, mech advance in so so condition.

hmmmm ill probably go with the pamco eventually. maybe next winter. i just got my bike up and running wanna ride for a bit before tearing into her again. thanks guy

Pamco. I like the Pamco better than the Boyer system too. I have all three setups at the time. Pamco no hesitation. One kick and brapppp....haha.

I have a very early Pamco, one of the first, and it's been trouble-free for over 10 years. Being the early model, it retains the stock mechanical advance, but that hasn't given me any issues either, but I do keep it well lubed. Wear on the advance unit is it's biggest "gotcha". As it wears, the amount it advances increases. Eventually that can over-advance your timing even with the idle timing set right. Then you might hole a piston. I check my timing about once a season just to monitor this situation. I don't expect to find the idle timing setting changed from the last check, and I don't. What I'm more interested in is if the full advance timing has moved, increased into the "danger zone". So far, it's been good, not changing, and that's telling me my advance unit is holding up OK. By keeping it well lubed, I don't think it's worn hardly at all over the years I've had the bike. It was worn a bit when I got the bike but it looks like I've put a stop to that. It was all dry and rusty when I got the bike, lol.

i want to get a pamco but i just finihed putting the bike together. at this point im just trying to get her to run. the idel is all over the place. as in high right when i fire her up. and i low as i am driving around. i don't really know where to start. so i dont wanna mess witht chagning any more stuff out till i get her running right. so next week i will check the timing and the gaps. bench sync the carbs. hopefully i can get it in an anfternoon
