Hi ..i have a xs 650 .That up untill last week ran . I bought the bike with a boyer digital ignition . and as per usual it has a rats nest of wiring stuffed into a box . the bike needed the carbs cleaned and after doing so ..and attenpting to "tune" the bike fired right up . and idke went thru the roof .So i flicked the kill switch to turn off the bike and turn the carbs down and retry . It has never came back. I have no spark . I just replaced the coil and still nothing . which is crazy. Cause ive ran the bike at least five times . After aquiring it. In attempt to get the carbs somewhat dialed in . I have 12 lv up to the coil. It seems to have a weird rectifiyer and regulator ive not seem before . (pick attached ) i need directions . Or methods of testing . Wiring never was and probably never will be something im good at . But this has to be related to the elextrical system . .

You may get some headache about what year your bike is. I downloaded a digital manual off here once with model specific wiring diagrams and if I had the link I'd hook you up. I would definitely check fuses and grounds. Are you trying to start it with starter only or kick as well? Having no spark is not the carbs fault. How are you checking for spark? Sorry if I am insulting your intelligence just trying to get a better idea of your issue.

The title states the bike is a 74/75 . Up before the bike died it was a 1-2 kick pony even with dirty overflowing carbs. I know the bike has no spark as per ..frustration I held the screw driver to see if i woukd get a jolt ..and nothing no when i first initally got the bike out of storage and getting it ready for spring .I was trying to determine what clynder was not running by pulling the plug wires and i did receive a shock then that was weak . and this was before the bike decided to take a full shit on its self I also am fully aware the boyer systems wont run if your under 10v

There are few things more frustrating for the average mechanic than dealing with an "altered" wiring system with no "road map" That Boyer guide looks good, seems to be written for the average DIY. Use an old turn signal as a tester. Heck it sounds like I wrote it LOL.
Key to trouble shooting is cutting down the "might be's, divide the problem in two, is it the bike's wiring or the ignition system? That guide gives the "how to do that".
An XS Boyer troubleshooting thread here. http://www.xs650.com/threads/boyer-bransden-schematic.33034/
Hints; charge your battery with a charger. Fuggetabout voltage regulator etc. for now, concentrate on finding the spark.
Using test tools that don't add to the mystery is important. good connectors alligator clip for the ground so you can concentrate on what the hot lead is doing. Speaking of grounds Often forgotten, overlooked, many times bad grounds are at the bottom of phantom electrical problems. good luck report your findings?
