Hi all,

Just a quick intro,

I have just purchased my first XS650 (D) & had plans to chop & bob it after seeing & riding a friends, but however have changed my mind as it is too good & complete of a bike to chop in half, just can't do it.

So I will fix it up where required & ride as is, after I pick it up on Wednesday.

It will be an original bike, no major mods, just electronic ignition, banshee stator swap & maybe a rephased crank in the future, but will always appear as original as possible.

Cheers.

Welcome. Always good to hear from people not jumping on the de-engineering bandwagon. Enjoy your bike.

I.

welcome to the site. You will learn alot here I know I have. I love seeing a pretty stock bike. it's like a piece of rolling history

Welcome to our happy little group.
So many people cut and hack before they give the bike a chance. Glad to here your doing a restomod. You can always find a project someone else started and gave up on, or a very rough specimen to hack up.
I have kept my 75 pretty much stock looking. It has many mods to improve it without destroying it character.

:( Picked up the bike on Wednesday & have decided to hack it....:( not as good as hoped. Hope you all can forgive me..... Unfortunately I don't have the budget of a small African dictatorship to resto this thing.
I am disappointed but hopefully another good one will come my way which I will keep stock.
I am actually looking forward to doing a non-standard (custom) build as this will be something new for me after having resto'd several bikes over the years to standard.

Once again sorry guys, but this could well turn into another sportster tanked bobber...

Will have to get in contact with Australian members at some stage as I might require some parts here & there & have been lurking on the www.XS650.org.au/ site for a while, funny that xs parts & bikes seem plentiful in the US & for little $$$, not the case here unfortunately.

Will post some pics in a new thread when the build begins as I'm sure you don't want to see pics of a run down SAD looking XS.

P.S turns out bike is a C not a D

Cheers.

Don't apoligize for doing what YOU want to YOUR bike. Don't let the stocker guys scare you. Yamaha made plenty of XS 650's. Good luck on your build.

BAN him for chopping it!!!

I just like xs650's. Doesn't matter what they are bolted into. Search through the old posts, there is probably a thread for anything you want to know about building a chopper out of the XS.

nj1639, yeah it runs sweet, comp test 155psi per pot by kicking it - so happy with that. So motor will remain as is, may do the cam chain if it needs it but that will be all.
