I have a 77 xs650D that I am rewiring, and I am using the handlebar controls form mikesxs. I am just trying to clarify what sends the power into the LH switch. I cannot find on any diagram a wire listed as hot. Any help would be great.
Thanks, Jimmy

If it’s the same as mine (I replaced my RIGHT controls with replicas) the blue/black from the right connects to hi/lo on the left, sending or cutting power via the on/off switch on the right control. I’ll tag you in the explanation on my thread from one of the gurus

My build thread might be worth a look over, specifically starting around page 9. I rewired everything from scratch, and since there was no factory harness left when I started I had to test everything in the controls dept with a multimeter to determine function to each component. It’s time consuming but leaves nothing to chance

I done a bunch and you have to add in the running light somewhere because if you tie it into light switch it will be on all the time. Aftermarket switches has a separate hookup on the throttle side to power lights on/off . I would use a ohm meter and test because mikesxs colors are different.

77D diagram..........You will need to identify any difference in MikesXs wiring colours
from Ignition, power to right Hand bar Headlight On/Off switch......Red/Yellow.......

Blue/Black power out to RLU, (Reserve Lighting Unit).......

.Power out to Left hand bar switch on Blue/yellow to High/low beam switch..............

Joining the Blue/black and Blue/Yellow at the RLU connector will bypass the RSL. Power directly from Right hand bar switch to left hand bar switch headlight circuit

If that switch is wired as stock, you have two power in wires, one blue/black to the head light high/low switch. Power out is yellow to high, green to low.
A brown/white to the turn switch. Output, chocolate to left side turns, dark green to right side.
The horn button is a ground. Power to horn on a brown wire, from horn on pink wire to button. Button grounds to housing. Housing to bars. Bars to frame or harness ground.

On a '77 model, the left switch housing is grounded via a black wire run into the headlight connected to a harness ground wire. The housing does transfer this ground into the bars, through them and over to the right housing. There it acts as a ground for the starter button.
