What have you done to your XS today?

Gotta tap 2 holes, but I have a new idle air control valve set up. The VW purge valve I was running didn't move enough air, so this ford valve should move plenty with the custom base.

Lol, well my new m6 tap should be here today, then I'll be able to install the new IAC. Then I get the fun of tuning it with the new cam and IAC. I have plenty of injector and pump so it should only take a couple cold starts and a little riding. The bike doesn't look it, but it's maybe an hour from running.

Finally scored some Red Wing Hammerhead shocks for my tracker. I used the top rubber bushing from my cheapo Mikes shocks and had to spread the bottom mount brackets a tad but they fit really well. Now I might just have to address a little chain rub on the swingarm. That’s on my radar for now, but I’m happy with the addition to this project.

Those pretty cool Willis! You’ll have to give us a ride report, when you try them out.

I was out finally on both my bikes today! Great weather and bikes runs really good finally!!. Roads are still crappy and hopefully they start patching the potholes soon. Both my bikes are ready to go! View attachment 140291

Nice! It’s been a long winter for you guys. Pretty hot here already, gotta get out early!

Last night I fixed the non working tail light. Thought it was the bulb. Nope, not that. I'm went to bike night anyway. On the long way home, I stopped in Carl's jr for a bite. After that went to start the SG and when I put the Ignition switch in the "ON" position the tail light flashed, WT..Did it a few more time to confirm what I saw and knew what the problem was. Sure enough.. the bottom of the housing was loose and barely holding on. Got it out and tightened it all up and the light is back on! Victory! Ride ON!

Ok, it is back up and running. Sounds different with the XS1 cam, and I had to pull 6.5* of timing. The ford idle valve moves almost too much air as with it 100% open the idle goes up to 2300, so I might mess with restrictor to be more adjustable since I'm only using 5% of its range. But that is an improvement since the VW valve at 100% didn't raise the idle enough.

Installed my shiny new clutch basket hardware, cleaned up mating surfaces and reinstalled left side cover, and installed new clutch cable. Refilled with some 20w 50 conventional from Walmart and took her for a wet and muddy romp around the back yard in the rain. Wiped her down and shit the garage door for the weekend so my old lady doesn’t come looking for me with a kitchen knife.

I like that! Very custom looking!
Inspiration to vent my generator cover came from Willis's avatar - see #5347 above - I decided to use fine stainless mesh rather than the perforated sheet he used, but same concept. Sure, it's more cosmetic than functional, but I think it meshes well with the overall look of our 650's.

Love it. If you ever consider making and selling them, please let me know!
Glad you like the look; it's just too labor-intensive, plus requires a framework behind it fabbed from flat bar stock and attached to the sides of the battery box that holds the sidecovers on. I did the latter several years ago after replacing the stock airboxes with Uni-filters, so it's been a sequential process. Still have to vent my RH side cover.

Alright! Just Finished minutes ago getting my new XS1 style indicators installed- it took a bit of finagling, but they’re on and they look MUCH better in my opinion. They make the bike look substantially older than it is. The stock front left indicator was loose at the pin in the stalk, so it was always bouncing around. It was also lopsided and saggy. For what it’s worth, the new ones are plastic and substantially lighter. Not that my machine is leightweight or performance oriented, but every little
Bit of weight reduction helps to offset the 25 extra lbs of rider weight I’ve acquired this last year. Really happy with this 30 dollar ebay upgrade! Before and after pics-
