Good find -- I see you bought Mr. Claw's eBay diode. And that does look like a Yamaha part number, but I think that they thought that the diode was such a dumb idea that they were too embarrassed to put it on the parts diagrams...

I'm not sure what the resistor does, but the parts diagrams show it on or near the battery box. I still say that part # 22 in that pic you posted is the diode, and the diode does not have a part number. There are pics of what it is supposed to look like in those links I put in my first reply.
1976 never had the resistor -- it was used on 77-79.
