Roll call

Just dropped in. Montesano, Wa. I am picking up a 76 sometime soon as the "Son" gets the title squared away. 21K on the Odometer and it is a basket case. Long story on this one is Dad owned it till he died. He stopped riding it in 03 I think. He tinkered on it and lost some pieces and now I get to pt it back together. I am planning on just get it going this summer and see where it will go. I am thinking a nice stock machine but lets get it home and see what all needs to be done to it. It kicks over freely, seems to have compression but I am thinking most of the "Rubber Parts" will need to be replaced and the chrome parts replaced of painted over. WE will see how it all goes together. I will post pictures as I get them.

As I said I would here are the pictures of the bike I picked up. Tell me what you think. I paid $400 for it. Basket case? maybe we will see.

Nice find...ya, looks rough now, but cool/fun project, And it should come back with a bit of work. Looking forward to your progress.

Looks great Submariner!

I think there’s a little rusty spot on the foot pad of the rear brake pedal - otherwise good to go!

All seriousness aside, I found a red ‘76 XS650C in somewhat the same shape a couple of years ago and have been having a blast with her ever since. These are great bikes and lemme tell ya, they are really nice all around motorcycles for just booting around. Not the fastest, not the loudest, not the sharpest handling - but they feel good, look good, sound fabulous and they’re just so....nice to ride.

Welcome to the Forum - keep the photos and the questions coming. Tons of smart people with lots of knowhow on here!

Montesano? Both my parents are from there and I’ve got a slew of cousins still in town.

11-04-18 Guess I am really late to the party. I have a Tacoma address, a Fife phone number, and my kids go to the Puyallup School district. I am very conflicted as to where it is I really do live. I have a 1981 XS650 as you can see in the picture. I got the mechanicals and wiring all sorted out last winter and this winter I am going to blow it apart and paint the frame. It's my vision of what a DT 650 could/should/would be like. They really are never really done, are they? I did get to meet Ratranger once, by accident. I saw his bike at a machine shop I deliver to. I asked who owned the bike until I found him. Nice guy and a very cool bike.

Been a while since I was here. Just picked up 1981 Heritage Special in running condition, about 98% stock. I am not sure what I am going to do with it. Keep it stock or make a bob job out of it.

Mines almost back on the road. I was having a heck of a time retuning it after the cam swap and base gasket delete. Turned out one of the used honda injectors was sticking, sometimes open, sometimes closed. So now I have a pair of new gsxr injectors in while I figure out my injector cleaning machine.

Ain't technology fun? How is that new job close to home? I bought the calendar just because your bike was in it, well that, plus the other bikes were pretty cool too. I have yet to go for a ride this Spring, to busy with life stuff. I did pick up another XS 650, it is a Heritage model with a zillion spokes (what is it? 64 spokes?). It is 98% stock and in pretty good running condition, although it needs some TLC. Keep it stock or build a bob job out of it is the question going on in my mind.

Technology is great, until it's a pain in the backside. New job has been great, I do less work for more pay and better benefits, all with a drive that is under 10 minutes. There are some really nice bikes in the calender, I'd be proud to call any of them mine.

I rode mine to work today, it was a little cold in the morning so the lithium battery was unhappy. But otherwise it's running pretty good now and I should be able to get it better.

I've got a titled steering head, and an xs1 motor. I'm thinking after I finish the single sided fork and swingarm cb400f that I'll turn the XS parts into a hossack forked softail bobber. But that's probably next year.
