springer neck conversion

thanks guys, yep single downtube. the 150mph was a joke it is a stock 447. the measurements i need for top is 48,5mm od 25.5mm id. lower is 50mm od 25.5mm id the tc bearings both are 25.5 id and fit but od to small. any ideas where to get these bearings? oh yea and the pic is from my flip phone. old school all the way!

The ID of 25.5 is 1 inch. So as far as the stem goes most any trailer bearing will fit the neck. I think most of those bearings they just make the ID bigger or smaller to fit the use. The bearing it self is the same.
On the OD they make the races different OD's for the use.
DADDYG says that's a Triumph frame. I'll believe him. Might want to search for Triumph neck bearings.

Just for kicks I put Triumph tapered neck bearing in my search engine. It came up with quite a few listings for bearings. A couple even mentioned kits to use a 1 inch stem like Springers come with.

The only problem is if it’s a early triumph some of those didn’t use the race on the frame. It was all on the stem, of the guy would let me know if he is in south or north jersey there is a place called Fazio’s and they have a table full of bearings and races that you can look threw. One is at the Rte 33 circle and the other is in williamstown area. That were I buy my metal from and is a builders heaven haha

north jersey. trying to find out measurements on the triumph bearings and go from there.found some on lowbrow waiting to hear back from them.

talked to lowbrow and was told upper and lower are the same and mine is different upper and lowerl did see some 101 vins from the 50's and 60's. since my neck is welded on by some so so welder i was thinking of buying a weld on neck for 60 bucks and have it done by a good welder, what do you guys think?

Hi fatman,
remember that the new neck will have a new ID# which ain't gonna go well at the DMV.
If you can fix the paperwork a different neck will give a better chance to get races for it
and allow you to change the frame's head angle if you want to do that.

at this point i don't care about dmv cause it never should have been able to title it to begin with. 2 keeping the bike in the family when i croak. 3 i know someone who can fix the numbers. now the conversion neck kit i have should fit this stock neck and 1 ' springer stem. and also the neck i have on now is raked and poorly welded. guna have it done right with gussets etc. take a couple weeks to get neck have it welded and bring back for assembly, if it works i will post a clear pic... using my wifes smart phone not my 20 year old flip, which by the way, fell out of pocket at 40mph on this bike and still works! try that with your hi tech people tracking big brother watching you flimsy ass addicting piece of modern technology!

Hi fatman.
good that you can cope with the DMV Nazis as there's many a poor beggar couldn't and had to part out a good bike because of it.
Good that you plan to get the new neck done right as you don't want to break yours should you fall off if it fails.
And I will see your obsolete flip-phone and raise you my 35mm Pentax SLR camera.
But WTF can you get photo film these days?

i don't believe this neck comes with numbers on it anyway. i think i can top you cause i still have a black and white tv.

LOL. I had a Pentax SLR in the '70's, It was built like a brick. In the lat '80's, I had a Nikon. It was like somebody melted down a bank vault full of Swiss watches, and made cameras out of it. Wonderful! I probably shot 10,000 rolls through both. Just about the same time the Nikon died (for the third time - I decided not to have it overhauled again), digital cameras were becoming the rage. I've been through several of them, until I got a Canon EOS digital SLR as a gift. It has great optics, and enough features for me to do art with a camera. Roll film (and processing equipment) are still out there, but it's becoming a "lost art". You can get "Polaroids" too, but the pictures are credit card size. Too bad. I have my father-in-law's Polaroid 95B instant, roll film camera. It folds, the lens is mounted on bellows, and it's in great condition for c.1957. I would seriously give it a run, if I could find contemporary film for it. NOS won't work. That stuff does have a shelf-life!

Welcome to the party, Fatman! That looks like a pretty cool chop. Yeah, you're gonna keep it forever, and you don't care about titles, and VINs, but "Johnny Law" might have something else to say about it.... Behave and be safe!
And I just got rid of a perfectly good B&W TV. It was battery powered, and went with us on many camping trips (you don't want to miss the game, do you?), but we haven't been able to use it since TV signals went digital, and nobody makes a battery powered digital converter!
Again, welcome! Cheers!

update on Modiene. new neck welded on springer on and best of all new phone

Hi fatman,
bike looks real good even if I wouldn't dare ride it.
(wrecked my back 60 years ago riding rigid framed bikes, same time I learned that the front brake had 70% of the stopping power)
&BTW, XS650 motor don't run too well on sawn-off pipes, I'd advise extending them back to the rear axle.

help. can't find right bearings for my 71 xs650. got a moto iron springer and neck conversion kit and bearings to small.

i know getting the 2 into 1 next month it doesn't ride that hard. compared to the harley chopper i just sold. and yep ur right about the front brake... thats on the list too.

Hi fatman,
2 into 1 pipes is a nice upgrade, me, I'd put coils under that seat and yeah! on a front stopper.
The rigid frame bike that wrecked my back was an ex-British Army WW2 350cc Royal Enfield. It had the concept of a front brake.
(6" drum single leading shoe lined with fabric that had the same friction coefficient as bacon rind)
