Yea and is it a reg/rec combo I've got a 79 650 special n it's got the mechanical reg set up n everything is good I'm thinking eather my reg or rec is bad so I'm trying to eliminate the last problem area as easily as possable

Maybe I’m misunderstanding you I have the old 6 pin rectifier and the mechanical regulator that will go together in a pair.

Oh is the rec and reg good
As far as I know it is good. I bought it as an extra before I realized that I have the 8 pin rectifier. I can run a continuity check and make sure the diodes function.
