A few years ago I was trimming some tall overgrown shrubs with a long bar hedge trimmer. It got stuck and while I was trying to yank it free, it twisted loose from my grip and somehow bit the end of my index finger slicing it lengthways through the nail. Had to get it stitched closed and lost feeling in my fingertip, but hey....at least I still got it!

Ouch. Finger tips are the worst. A pain to heal/wrap up. I was sharpening an insulation knife (basically a filet knife) and am so used to it wasn’t paying attention and was looking at something else the same time. Knife slipped out of the sharpener and got the top of my thumb. Cut 1/8” through the nail and through the tip of my thumb. If I held it up it looked like a V. Just healed a couple days ago, happened about a month ago. Keep it clean!

Missed the very tip, but took about 1/3 of the nail just deep enough to grind the nail off and chew up the nail bed. It'll be tender for a while!

Not my first rodeo either. That finger has had a tough life.
You'd think after 50+ years of using power equipment (high school wood shop @ 14) I'd know better.
