My hobby is buying Mikuni BS CV type carbs, stripping them down, cleaning the components and then selling the parts through fleabay to help other 1970’s and 1980’s Japanese bike enthusiasts like myself. Ive noticed that the majority of Mikuni carb spares for sale are in the US, and while US carb prices are good value, the shipping costs and importation costs to the UK (and Europe etc) are high which makes the parts very expensive when all the costs are totalled up

I stick to Mikuni BS CV type carbs like the BS32, BS34, BS36 and BS38 types, and these include the two types (38 and 34) used on the Yamaha 650 XS1 through XS650K models.

I've used the online Partzilla.com website to view all the carb specs for the 1970 to 1983 650 model years, and over a period of a few weeks made an Excel (xls) spreadsheet which Travis has kindly uploaded for me so that others can download it

My spreadsheet has 2 tabs

The first tab shows the individual listing (over 850 total) in description alphabetical order of all carb items for models XS1 through XS650K, and there are filters in row 1 to help users quickly find the part they are looking for

The second tab has around 250 rows with a row for a specific carb part (description and part number), along with a table showing which models the part was used on. This should help people quickly find out if a similar part (with the same part number) from another model year will fit their bike

I thought this spreadsheet would be helpful to the XS650 community so Im posting it here as Travis suggested. I did find a few errors, and also some missing items, in the Partzilla online carb part diagrams. I've tried my best to make sure that all the information in my spreadsheet is accurate, but I apologise if there are any errors in my spreadsheet. If anyone does find an error, please let me know so I can fix it

For non-US based XS650 enthusiasts, I hope to offer quality, cleaned XS650 carb parts at attractive prices to help you keep your bikes running. My fleabay seller name is “mikuni-man” so if you're say living in Europe and need some XS650 carb parts, please check the Mikuni carb items I have for sale. I currently have around 300 listings

Regards,

Nice list great work......A link to your fleacebay page would make it easier

This post should go into the Shop area, It will stay relevant up near the top of the page .........the thread will get lost in the garage within a couple of weeks ............

Is this a Classified post or Shop post??.........or both..........It was mentioned the other day, from the powers, that people are not adhering to the specific areas to post in.

Good morning 650Skull, I dont have a fleabay page as Im what's referred to as a "private seller" rather than a registered fleabay business with an associated fleabay "shop", so my Mikuni carb listings are "individual"

Im unfamiliar with the workings and protocol of your XS650 site (Im a 1977 XS750(2D) owner), so that's why I sent my original email to the XS650 "admin" email address, and Travis kindly replied and advised me to post it to The Garage forum. Im happy for the spreadsheet to be posted wherever club members think it will be most useful.

Skull, I get what you're saying, but I figured this thread was 75% about the spreadsheet, with a plug at the end about carburetor work. It goes to show that some threads don't fit nicely into categories. I intend to include a link to this on the Tech page so it won't be lost forever. Maybe you can include a link in your stickied information thread?

No can do Travis. ...........The sticky is locked that's why i haven't updated the ID chart PDF, or was able to redo all the written information i had posted on the different models that got lost when the changeover happened.....Did mention it at the time, no feedback so ???.......Reworked some albums then lost that info as well, because the pics in the thread are linked through the album.

I found it by going back to another thread where you posted a little information, i then did a Duck Duckgo, (F&%k google). search and a link to your Fleacebay shop/account or whatever, came up...............Yea a link would work............sure there are other carb parts to wade through to find XS650 stuff.....But.......

You probably already know this??
Euro stuff ID is different, in that the models don't correspond with the states......With all the imported US bikes to Europe some more information on some parts might help you sell more...........the, (78/79 3L1-000101....79/80-3L1-020101... 80/81 3L1-040101 ...81/82 3L1-050101) US Customs BS34 Pilot screw, (no aftermarket or Mikuni/Yamaha replacement), can be used on all BS34 Carb XS650's, European US Custom, from 78-82/3 and US/Canadian Models from 80-83 BS34 Carb

Mikuni-Man, nice spreadsheet.
And welcome to the forum.

The Partzilla info usually shows the final revised part numbers, and gets some of them wrong. You can download original Yamaha parts manuals, that use the original part numbers. With some sleuthing you can see what and when revised parts were introduced.

https://thexscafedotcom.wordpress.com/category/manuals/manual-parts/

Your spreadsheet is missing much of the XS1 to XS1B carb info, and shows XS2 carb bodies for them. Not an easy task to filter and update.

We've got an incomplete Carb ID thread, but still full of useful info.

Ok, this is for the unique 70-71 "256" carbs.

There were 3 variants, the first W1, then E2 and E3, as shown in this service bulletin.

These are extractions from the original 70-72 parts manuals, with markings to show those variants.

This excerpt from the service manual shows 2 items that are not shown correctly in the above parts listing. It shows the throttle shaft seals (#47), but the outboard seal is that different undocumented critter that I pointed out in the shaft seals thread. It also shows the undocumented inboard throttle shaft cap (#48).

The undocumented inboard throttle shaft cap, p/n 256-14968-00, can still be found on eBay.

Here is the only parts page that, i know of that shows the BS34 Pilot screw and the adjustable needle, 5IX11, and 366 YO needle Jet.....This was Factory set up for Oceania Canadian European, (US Custom) and Japanese.......From the Japanese 4E3 parts manual.........I converted this page to English and crossed referenced the part no's from Partzilla and the Yamaha SH/SK parts manuals
