Should this ride thread be just a.... well, thread? Or should there be a dedicated Forum topic?

There used to be a category for this and no one ever used it. It was dead.

Can't things re-evolve if the need/want is there??

But the category was around until the site redesign in 2016. People don't use the categories we have now correctly. People constantly post in 'The Classroom' things that don't belong there.

Not just the classroom......Who's job is it to police this issue............I made this note when a build thread wasn't created in the Garage...........a couple of others + mod said it didn't matter........

It's an adnim problem........i gave up pointing out this issue

I move a couple threads a week skull, at your, PO's and even MY feelings that it needs to go to a better place.
We ain't the new yawk times here (thnkgod) It'll be fine, as recently noted this thread stole the some wind out of the lets see the XS thread. the what'd you do to your XS thread seems to be doing OK yet. IMHO most forums tend to have one or two general "waz up bro" threads that are the "watering hole" no matter the precise name.

Agreed, and not taking away from what you do that goes unseen............I guess i think it goes back to what i posted early on.......if this was a designated rides section and then new posts for your/my/whatever ride, (actual ride), then they are documented separately and what ever evolves in each new thread is just that.

This thread has got to 10 Pages, Mailman has posted several rides and there are a few of other smaller ones and some about gardening, (no reflection or judgment i love gardening), so at the end of the day its a jumble mess and no one can, or would be willing to wade through 10's or 100's of pages and find a few interesting rides and scenery..........

Hence the never used hashtags feature LOL.
PS I'm not aware of a build thread brought my attention that WASN'T moved to the garage....
These forums are more like facebook than we think, past info kinda fades into a jumble even though it's still there. Recall osteo's and the guy in california that built a beautiful dual purpose tracker, threads?

Perfect way to start Saturday morning! Sorry I didn't get this done yesterday as promised; my iPhone was giving me all sorts of grief. I took this video this morning around 9:30. This is one of my favorite roads for a short half hour to an hour ride. It’s maybe 10 minutes from where I live. Please excuse the weird warbling effect; the phone was mounted to the bars. The jingling is my keys on the bars. I really need to get a helmet mount for my camera, or just go all out and buy a gopro, because you can’t see all the scenic midwest farmland to the sides. Glad to share one of my favorite rides with everyone.

OK... pet peeve time.... tv's, computers, theaters.... you name it, are horizontal. To the best of my knowledge, nobody makes a vertical viewing device. Videos are meant to be shot horizontal. :boxing:;)

Great day for a ride. Rode 25 miles to our monthly CMA meeting and then on to our weekly family breakfast gathering. Then took the loooong way home through 4 counties (total of 120 miles). I don't think the Stagecoach comes through here anymore. BTW I think this ole '81 is dialed in - 60 mpg this last tank.

I agree with you; unfortunately this was the only way I could get an unobstructed view from my phone on these bars

I was going to try the iPhone video thing. I even bought from EBay a nicely made adjustable aluminum phone mount for my handlebars. I had to modify it to get it to fit properly. Being aware of how wind noise can affect microphones I even secured a piece of foam over the microphone and took it out for a test ride.
The results were not good. Wind still made all kinds of rustling noise and the vibration caused the picture to distort so bad it looked like it was filmed underwater. Oh well. o_O

You need to take more rides and more photos! Pretty country you live in, and I love the historical aspect.
Bike is lookin good too!

Love the deep South but never really been there. Going to start with a leg down there on a trip west this summer. BTW, 60 mpg is also about what I've gotten on the hwy with my '81.

Thanks. You're right about more pics. I'm bad about forgetting until it's too late. More rides may be a bit more difficult. Already doing 40k miles a year. Vast majority are long road trips on the Harley touring bike and shorter overnighters with the wife when she gets her Spyder out. XS is for around home.

Ah, but that feeling of being 2,000 mi from home on a moped makes up for it...

Just went for a short 200 mile ride today for lunch at a 50's throwback burger place on Loon Lake in Washington State. The Z1 was one of my Z1's that I just sold to a friend. Both bikes ran good with mine getting 57 MPG and the Z1 getting 42. It will be nice getting back on the FJR

Just an absolutely beautiful pair of bikes. Man that must’ve been painful parting with that Z. :laugh2:
I’m sure the 200 miles was easier for your buddy. My XS2 is fun to run around on short rides, but labors a little at highway speeds.

Funny how that works, isn't it? Back in the day, I thought my '74 TX650A was The Shit for touring. Big, powerful, comfy...

Even my '79 Special felt pretty good, but I did notice it was a tad breathless at anything over 55 or 60.

Then I got the FJ...the six-fiddy seemed like a moped...small, cramped, underpowered....PRETTY as all get out, but not nearly as much fun as I remembered...

Funny, my memory just woke up. Back in about 1977, I took a long road trip on my 76 xs650 along with my buddy who had a Kawasaki Z1, it was mostly high speed mountain road blitzing, probably about 300 miles that day.
I was in my early twenties and I was still damn happy to be off of that bike at the end of the day. It probably didn’t help that back then, I had no riding gear. Just an open face helmet that at highway speeds would slide back on my head , no gloves or boots.
My next bike was a new XS750, that I put a Vetter Quicksilver fairing on. Man that bike felt like a yacht in comparison to my 650. :)
