So my bike has been running perfect for a couple weeks. Almost decided to ride to the other side of town and more problems. I stop at the gas station and fill up and when I leave my bike feels like it wants to die but it doesn't. It drops about 200 rpms then goes back up while idling. I checked plugs, fuel and wiring. What else could it be? Just carbs? Im thinking idle jet Is dirty. Ive never Messed with them before. What's the easiest way to take them off? I can't take them off because the frame is in the way. How can i tell what carbs I have? They could have been changed. They were synced a few months ago. But the bike has been worked on a few times since then. I want to to trust my bike but i can't. I don't know anyone with a truck and I don't want to push it home 10 miles...

Have you beem rideing it fairly regularly? I'd try some Seafoam in the tank and a few runs around the neighborhood to start. Do you run a filter on your fuel line? The carb guide under "XS650 Tech" is a good start to understanding and Identifying your carbs.

I try to ride every day. Even If I don't have anywhere to go. And yea. Brand new in line filter. I keep hearing about that seafoam stuff. I'll try it. What's it do?

Super cleans the insides of the fuel system. It will make your bike run crappy for a bit, but keep riding it. After short while it will start to run better to (hopefully) run the best its ever. It did for mine. Most likely need to adjust idle mxture and idle speed after the Seafoam does it's job a while.

I got mine at AutoZone. You could google it and find a store near you. Maybe KMart or Walmart auto dept?

Looked at their website. It sounds like it would help. My idle is better when it's cooler outside. It fluctuates only a little now on it's own In first at stop lights. Could this be a problem I never noticed? Does anyone elses bike do that? Or should it stay exactly at whatever i set the idle at?

This may be an unlikely shot, but have you thought about the tank venting? If the cap isn't venting well enough it can effect fuel flow.

That's possible. Im running only 1 petcock and it's a new tank with a new cap. The rubber seal is new. The cap is supposed to vent though isn't it? I don't hear pressure releasing when I open the cap when it's hot outside...

You're right, it is supposed to vent through the cap; you can test it by running with the cap unlatched, as long as it doesn't slosh out.
