But it's complete, only minor damage has a title only 18K miles and might run.......

Pulled the gas tank. (quite good inside)
A bit of an experiment;
Opened float bowl drains, sprayed carb cleaner in via the fuel line til it ran out all 4 drains, closed drains, added a bunch more carb cleaner via the fuel line, waited a half hour, drained the carb cleaner out, put a temp tank on it turned on the gas. Found the bad fuse holder (1987, Yamaha still using those crap glass fuse clips in the fuse blocks, LOL). Bit of cranking a few "tries to fire" and;
Crap!
it runs, GOOD!
Have the parts I need, waiting at my buds house.
Need to buy a battery, and change oil n filter, of course, there was gas in the crankcase.
It's charging, tires are usable, brakes recent Guess it won't be a part out for an XS project.

Nice score there Gary! Those Radians were quick little bikes!

Meanwhile out in his laboratory, Gary experiments with new carburetor cleaning methods!
Bwahahahaha!

Gary, if you are going to adjust the valves I have learned this one valuable thing. That guy at the parts counter is going to be of no use to you and ordering shims on the internet is a PITA. The shims are always kept in a box by the service techs out back, THEY ARE NOT INVENTORIED. Ask to see THE BOX. Used shims are OK, measure them and feel them for nicks. I pay $4 per shim and will tell nobody where they are, my secret stash. I usually swap them around to different cylinders and it usually takes about two shims of different sizes for a 16 valve engine. You only have 8 valves. :sneaky:

Not bad looking. A few years back I picked up a yzf600r for cheap, it had been sitting and wouldn't run right and had scrapes all over the plastics. I dumped an entire bottle of carb cleaner in the tank, got it running and it slowly went from needing the throttle worked, to only run on choke, to running fine with no problems.

Shims and buckets? I think they're kind of fun to do.

Scott
Shim OVER bucket, the best!

yupper I bought a huge (like 200) shim stash one time when I had KZ1300's nearly all of them survived the mail trip here .

Allison....she’ll learn,......some day.

She already claimed dibs on it!
Polishing, cleaning, and minor repairs, it's coming along.
Should get a test ride in today.

I don't know but it seems Gary's wife would prefer he live in the garage? Wish I had found that model (wife) myself.
She's a keeper fer sher.
Considering going to scooter tires
This bike has oddball 110/90/16 front 130/90/16 rear tires on fairly wide rims
going down to 80 or even 70 series scooter tires that have "enough" weight and speed ratings for "our" intended use may offer some handling AND price advantages. :smoke:
I actually have a complete EXTRA set of radian wheels, brakes, forks etc. for yet another project I had in mind.

I am waiting with baited breath to hear how your , no removal carburetor cleaning , works out for you. I’ve gotta believe it’s a lot of work to remove a linked set of four carbies.
I’ll bet this bike is gonna be a fun little pocket rocket! Keep us posted!

OK thought I'd better report 'fore Bob throws a fit.
Starts instantly with (handlebar) choke, runs excellent at idle and 'round the driveway.
Headed out now for the first ride.
Things I found so far along the way (typical, expected?)
Drained oil (it was not gas contaminated) but looked like a lot of oil in the drain pan??
Spec is 2.5 ltr. with filter change, poured oil into a one gallon bottle, it wasn't big enough! A good 4.5 quarts CAME OUT! LOL
PO had removed stock petcock in favor? of a chinese fleabay manual petcock. Found the vacuum line just laying there, not plugged......
Idle is just a bit low but will add some techron and put a on a few miles let it get used to running again before I mess with carb adjustments.
So far; needs front pads, front tire, clutch cable, chain. Have an oil filter on order will put that in tomorrow. It's cleaning up quite well, pics later.
It sits pretty small, 800 miles would be a loooong trip Max!
