gasket set recomendations

And the site is poorer for loosing him
IMHO, RG committed no crime.
I wish he was still with us.
However, it was his decision to depart.

I think we should all be tolerant of strong opinions, however offensive they are to us, personally.
After all, opinions are just opinions, not bullets.
I don't give a s**t if someone calls me a liar, cuz I know I'm not.

We all need to live on this planet.

Well, in RG's case... he did call me (and 2 others) a lair. My response to him was reasoned... without stooping to name calling. In short, I responded to him as I would I would like to be responded to. As you said, being called a liar didn't bother me and all was forgotten 5 min. after it happened. I was as shocked as the rest of you when he announced the next day that he was done. An apology would have been appropriate, but he could have just as easily stuck around either way. I'm of the let sleeping dogs be camp. It was his choice...

What I experienced was the membership "ganging up" on him, which is a bullying tactic.
That was a mistake, in my opinion.
We need to learn from our mistakes.

If someone (like RG) seems to be in error, i think it best to somehow support them, if they have value to the community.

Aw hell, guys, my skin is thick enough to take a little abuse from a shill. It's no big deal if somebody with an ax to grind thinks raising the deck .017" won't have an effect on performance.

He isn't here to defend himself..............I didn't know who was involved.........not necessity to even mention it .....

I guess you remember it differently than I do. What I remember is RG, out of the blue, telling 3 of us we were full of sh*t..... when we weren't. We responded. I guess you could stretch that to "ganging up"..... but when you call out 3 members, you gotta realize that you were the one who created the "gang" in the first place.

In these situations, someone has to exercise some restraint.

Sometimes, saying nothing is the best resolution to perceived offense.

Well Jeff, you got me wondering just how big an ass I was, so I went back and looked. The whole affair was actually pretty minor. RG's comments start at #33.
I honestly don't see anything there worth leaving over. I even tried to inject a little humor into it. So, I'll exercise some restraint and respectfully bow out this conversation. :)

Just re-read that old 2017 thread.
I had forgotten what an excellent exchange of cold weather stories it was.
Going into the 80's today (90's friday) here in Syracuse, with oppressive humidity.
I'm gonna wish for a bit of that snow and ice.

The only rudeness I can see in that thread was from RG, who got defensive and upped his abrasiveness in #48 instead of lightening up. The man took himself much too seriously.

Yes, RG was sometimes rude, abrasive, annoying, entitled and selfish. I didn't like him and wouldn't invite him to dinner. But he was interesting and a worthy contributor. It takes all kinds to make up this world.

I just ignored him when he was being a jerk.

Back to the gasket discussion....

One of the items I like the most in the Athena complete kit is the red fiber drain bolt gasket, which works so good and can be re-used numerous times.

What sort of drain gasket does the Vesrah have?
.
.

Not in the Vesrah kit. I use copper flat washers and anneal them for reuse--cheap, long lasting, and effective. Amazon lists plenty of them.
Haven't thought of using a flat copper washer, I'll try it.
On my XS's which don't have the nice Athena drain, I've been using copper crush washers from Aircraft Spruce and Specialty. Work pretty good. I imagine it was Jim who suggested them.
