Recommendation requested: SS braided brake line for '80G

Funny how there is such a backlash against mikes for selling Chinese made parts and also against Chinese made PMA's and about everything Chinese made.........except when the Chinese cheap made stuff is not involved with the 2 scenarios mentioned...........$3 for a 3 phase rectifier with heat sink.........$5 for a stainless steel braided Brake line...........The prices also include free shipping anywhere in the world.............How can those 2 parts be less about $2 difference in price..........Buy cheap and think cheap and you do yourself and fellow country men/women out of work.........once it has all gone, as is happening, other countries have control over you and your choice's............no tariffs don't solve the problem because everything costs more..........

if Yamaha did make these for less than $5 back in the early 70's...........it would be in the range of $200 or more in today's money...........can buy local for a less than half of that $200 so there is actual monetary gain comparatively............

Sure there is no guarantee, and any braided brake house could fail.............if you live to tell the tale there is recourse if it is bought local..............try getting some recourse from a $5 Chinese bought product that fails...........

I bet if you bought local, they got there lines or pieces to build lines from China.
I bought some inexpensive lines. Don't recall the price but I bought 15 inch lines to run from MC down to junction block. I had the lower lines. They are 21 or 22 inches long.
On one set I put black heat shrink tubing on to make them look more stock. Another set I used woven wire loom cover. With a bit of heat shrink to hold the ends. I really like the way these look.

I don't know about covering the whole line with shrink tube, to me the stuff is just not flexible. That woven wire loom cover stuff is impressive, looks good, good prices on ebay. I'd like to play with some of that woven stuff sometime. Kind of transparent, isn't it?

The line in question. I've found 90cm to be about the perfect length for the Euro bars .....

I thought it would be worthwhile, given all the discussion, to report on my experience with the Hong Kong brake line.

It was a rough start with the seller. After purchasing on EBay, I was informed that the item in color gray was sold out.
So I bought the item in black.
But it was $3 more (about $7.50).
So I expressed my irritation. The seller responded quickly, refunding me $1. This was August 1.
The item was shipped August 2nd from Hong Kong.

It arrived today, Aug 8th !
Six days later.
From Hong Kong !

I think that it is of better quality than the items I bought from Mikes in 2017 for $42 each plus shipping.

Both fittings have a 28 degree bend. Good.
Two rubber grommets are built-on. Good, helpful for mounting.

There is a DOT label. My understanding is that this is required to be placed by the manufacturer on certain types of automotive equipment. This is, as I've read, "an affirmative statement by the manufacturer that the equipment is compliant with an applicable NHTSA rule".

I'm happy.

You paid a bit more but you got more. The line I got only has one angled end and no little protection sleeves. The only place I really see the need for a protection sleeve is where the line will go through the guide on the lower triple tree. I just stick a piece of fuel line on it .....

Not trying to hi-jack this thread although I have a question regarding the Ebay sellers.
It seems like their lines are for bikes which have banjos at both ends.
My 76 has a banjo at the MC, and then at the top of the lower hose, both other connections are threaded fittings. Does anybody know of a seller to make my two needed hoses?
I may switch MC in the future but for now, just trying to get the original parts up and running.

thanks.

Norton, check here on my thread on my ‘75 brake overhaul. Not sure if the 76 system is the same as my 75, but you may find a helpful solution.

Thanks Willis, so when you measured your lines, is the length ordered include the fittings, or just the flexible portions?

thanks.

Mr. Twins, is the small bracket something you made, or on the bike from factory?

That's something I made from a piece of S.S. strap. Originally there was a junction block for the upper and lower brake lines bolted there. Many of us switch from that 2 line set-up to one long line. There's really no need or benefit to 2 separate lines and in fact, there's more connections and more possible leak points that way.
