Bushyboy's build thread

Of course nothing can be easy registering a vehicle in the aloha state. I passed the safety inspection per say, only because they fail every vehicle for not having Hawaii registration. However now I have to practically jump through hoops and give my first born child before i can get it registered since the vin is less than 13 digits.

Not the Hawaiian pics I promised, but hope you get a laugh at my expense. These are of me waiting for a vin check and at the weight scale in a farm field. Now after giving a kidney and my first born child; all I need to do is wait for my title to arrive with the rest of my stuff. Then I can go back to dmv to get registration and then hopefully one final stop back to the inspection place to get the safety sticker. On the up side I finally think my carbs are tuned for my 2 into 1 exhaust.

Just thought I would post what all I have been up to with my build lately. I just started being able to do things to the bike after the move. I have been daily riding to work so up keep and maintenance have been involved as well. So I shortened my linkage rod on my mid set brake lever for a more comfortable position; downside is now the kick start lever hits. I fixed my Yamaha emblem on the right side of my tank it has been somewhat crooked due to PO denting tank. Also I added tank knee pads with the intent to give a wider look. Got around to wrapping my exhaust which was a pain doing with a 2 into 1 and still installed. Only did it installed because I didn't want to get an exhaust leak if I removed it. I finally got my carbs adjusted perfectly for the 2 into 1 exhaust as well. My wife gifted me a guardian bell, which I believe helped me knock the gremlin off my intermittent ignition issue. That and I am pretty sure after breaking down the last time I found the issue being the turn signal relay vibrating against the engine. I am trying the old retro mirrors, but really would like an opinion on if it fits a cafe build or if I should find some bar end mirrors? I have tried so many different configurations, but I actually like being able to see what is behind me now. They do seem to stick out a little too much for a cafe to me though. I finally got all the oil leaks sealed up in my engine which means now I can possibly get it shined up, lol.

So whats to come in the future short and long term you may ask? I have a new seat coming soon to replace the comfortable but too big in the rear one which doesn't match the tank. Possibly I will do some bar end mirrors that actually can be used to see behind me. I am hesitant to do it, but may shorten the front fender. Maybe a single speed-o tach, but I kinda wanna keep the old retro look to my cafe and not make it futuristic looking. I plan on getting the tank and side covers painted, but not sure the color scheme yet. Far future especially since its hard to find anything in Hawaii is maybe purchase a newer Yamaha XSR 700 so I can have an old and new style cafe.

BEAUTIFUL!! Great pics and the whole North Shore area around past that golf course, Turtle Bay? area is enough away from the downtown tourist area to feel "real" and comfortable..... Took Mrs Jax to Hawaii about 5 years ago for our 10th anniversary and for one day, rented a near-new Bonnieville to take our own self guided tour. Loop around the entire island of Ouahu was a gas! On a slow day after you've been there a while check out the Kuala Ranch, it's where a lot of Juraissac Park was filmed, also the TV show "Lost"....,pretty cool and some old WW2 bunkers and stuff in the hills above. They have ATV guided rides too but they have throttle stops on the ATVs so not much speed, still pretty cool to ride. Enjoy the surroundings of your new station, it really is beautiful!

Bike lost about 10 pounds today. I cut the front fender down to size and added a motolana seat without having to cut the frame.

@GLJ I got the tt500 Kickstarter from a 77 and it just barely touches the brake toe lever on my mid set, but clears better than the stock one did. At least now I can kick it in the case of an emergency or in the presence of a hot chick, lol.

Not your typical K&N pod filters for the XS650. These are fitted for another motorcycle, but have a 54 mm inlet and are longer. I thought I’d buy some used to make sure they worked so it wouldn't be a big loss if they didn’t. Even came with the water resistant covers for the filters. I am hoping since they have a longer area that they won’t create turbulent air; like many mention about the K&N filters specific for our bikes. Can anyone guess what bike these filters are made for?
