I started to finish up my wiring and everything seemed to be working except my turn signals. Got a buzzing sound from the relay. With one hand on the bars and touched the relay I got a good shock. I made a ground jumper from the relay to the motor and got a short, quick buzz, then left side signals started working. Go to right signals and get a constant buzz and no right side signal lights. New OEM relay. New Battery 12.5 volts. Any thoughts? Thanks guys.

OK. So I checked the signal wires at the hollow bolt. They all look good. I removed the relay and payed it right on the cases. No buzz and everything works as it should but no right side flashers. Only that buzzing sound. I disconnected both right side flashers at both the front and rear harnesses. Still got that buzz when right signal switch is on. I think I got something crossed in the bucket. Also saw this in the XS2 wiring diagram so I figured I needed it. I have no clue where it’s supposed to go. Also in the bucket picture in the bottom left there’s a 4 gang light green plug that the right signal is plugged into. In the center of the pic is a 4 gang black plug that the other right side wire is plugged into. I haven’t seen any light green wires in that bucket.

Unplug the flasher unit and make up a jumper wire to hook the wire connections together, that will give a steady 12 volts at the turn signal switch. When you turn the switch left or right the bulbs will be on steady. Sort out your ground connections and bulb wire connections until everything works, then plug the flasher back in.

Copy that Mike. Thanks. So if I’m reading this right, I’m gonna jump all 4 signals to the wires at the relay until all 4 are burning solid. Is that right?

I’ve tried everything from changing wires and blowing fuses to jumping everything over. Put it back where I started. Everything works but right side flashers. Buzzing noise. I called in reinforcements, he said “ There’s your problem rookie, you need to stick a wire in here, crimp it down, and ground it well. “ Then left. Asshole. Just kidding. He’s one of my best friends.I’m gonna do it, but I still think I got something crossed in the bucket.

Thanks Mike. I bypassed the relay and the left side flashers burned solid. Switched to the right side and blew a fuse. Tried moving stuff around in the headlight bucket but didn’t get anywhere. I had to walk away for a few days. I also was not completely accurate when I said everything worked but the right side flashers. Apparently the horn and decompression/start switch wasn’t working either. I unplugged everything and will start over. I figured all black wire connections are the way home to ground so it didn’t matter which gang plug they went to. I guess not. BTW I did check all ground contacts to make sure I had good clean contact. Thanks again.

Thanks Mike. There’s not much back there to stuff up. I still can’t find a home for this. Might be the whole of my problems. I don’t think anybody in this forum has one on their bikes but it’s clear as day on the XS2 electrical fiche.

I seem to recall a ground wire inside the headlight bucket from under the nut on each turn signal stalk to a ground.

But then, I've slept since the last time I had the headlight out of an XS...

Thanks Scull. That’s the one Bob sent me. Shows 4 dark green wires in the bucket. A DG wire coming off a 6 gang multi to a 4 gang bullet w/ 3 male DG plugs. I got 1 male DG in the bucket. The one with the tape. It’s coming from the left handlebar switch. All harnesses NOS OEM. Hmmmm.

Go through the thread.........There are pics from RobinC's 73TX, GLJ's 72, and mailman's 72..........all these bikes are supposed to be original harnesses and the diagram was worked off of these pics and Bob didn't find any differences when re-looming his bike..........That's all i know, but if you have conflicting information and some good pics to show the differences it would be great.......Maybe add to the thread link i posted to keep all the info for the diagram in one place........

Internet down and using the local library so wont be back on for a couple of days

Hey Scull. I may have found something. That DG may be going to a 4 gang G along with others. I’m gonna try that next. But first I’m gonna go straight to the battery with my right side signal leads to make sure they burn. I’ll keep you guys posted. As always, thanks for all your help.
