Hello everyone! I just acquired my first XS and thought this would be the best place to post an introduction. My name is Chad, I am from the Richmond Va area and am 31 years old. I've been racing dirt bikes for 27 years and love anything to do with off road. I am a huge vintage fan, street and dirt. The bike I just got is in need of a lot of work so I'll be doing a lot of reading and probably asking questions from time to time.

I'll add a photo of my project. It needs a lot of love as it has been sitting for a long time. It's a 81 650 dirt bike. I don't have many details on the conversion or who did it. From my research it has a CZ front end, Bultaco type plastic fuel tank and a PE Suzuki seat. I plan to restore it into a desert sled type bike and race it next year in our local Virginia series and a few national events along the east coast.

Back in the day (mid-70's) a friend and I built a "twingle" 305 Honda (CL77) Scrambler. Herding that tank around a dirt track wore me out 45+ years ago.

I can't even imagine a 650-based dirt bike these days. I suppose actual suspension would help a lot tho. I think the CL had MAYBE 3 inches on the back and not much (if any) more than that at the front.

Well this is a refreshing change of direction! :geek: I have seen some really cool dirt bikes made from our 650’s. There are some examples on YouTube.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I’m in the beginning stages of just trying to get the bike running before anything else. It’ll be a long winter project. I’m hoping to race it in the Full Gas Sprint Enduro series in the Open A class against all the modern mx and enduro bikes. Should be a good time! I started the tear down yesterday afternoon. Once I get along further I’ll post up a build thread.

I’m not 100% sure in my direction yet though. I’ve got a lot of stuff laying around. May go with a traditional desert style bike. Or a full custom with long travel suspension and all that. Time will tell. I’ll change my mind 1000 times while doing the build.

The ADD is real.
