When you see a post like this?

More than two years ago, guy buys a bike he knows nothing about. Joins the forum and makes exactly ONE post. You see this kind of stuff all the time. Sometimes they’ll post a dozen times or so, start an ambitious project and then disappear forever. Do you think that they just got overwhelmed? Started something that they just didn’t realize would take so much time, commitment, and $$$ ?

Thanks, took a look at the thread. Nice enough welcome. Well, it's a mystery why he never got in touch again.

I think Bob's suggestion that he got overwhelmed is as likely as anything. But you know, sometimes in life, you get into a few things and then other things happen and Pouf! years have just gone past.

But you know, sometimes in life, you get into a few things and then other things happen and Pouf! years have just gone past.

But the warm summer breezes
The French wines and cheeses
Put his ambition at bay
His summers and winters
Scattered like splinters
And four to five years slipped away

( excerpt from He went to Paris, By Jimmy Buffet ) :)

Happens on other forums too. I am a vintage Subaru enthusiast, and that forum has the EXACT same dynamic that this forum has. It's hilarious. I think it's just human nature. @Mailman, I think you are right when you say people just get ambitious and overwhelmed.

In many ways I can understand these things. When I retired back in 2015 I really thought I would have all kinds of "free time" to do things I had been putting off.

Well I did get a motor assembled and swapped into my 1982 XS650 and got the wiring harness I had bought maybe 10 years before installed in my 1978 XS650. But the 1982 still need some work on the starter spring so it will electric start with some reliability. The 1978 has run but still needs a battery and new rear tire, and I still need to see about getting the title in my name!

Seems like this year the ambition to do anything is always eaten up by needs to keep the lawn mowed, actually should be going back out and do some more right now! Thought I was going to have a break when they forecast rain but only got a dozen big drops!
