What have you done to your XS today?

I thought this bike had the star mags on both ends before? And what did you do to that Guzzi hmmm? Sell it?
Roll it off a cliff? :laugh2:
Have the rear star, needs some spacers turned, and it's disk brake so yada yada yada to install..

What's holding that Standard seat on there? Did you weld hinge brackets on the frame? This is something I might consider on the '83. That mega-hump stock seat is sooooo ugly, lol.

I will add some sort of spring clip at the rear. this pan wasn't much, I drilled the spot welds and knocked off the brackets, removed all the bolt on latches, hinges. It needs a new cover too. but has nice foam. o_O Soon as I went to start it I found the pan touches the fuse holders when you sit down.
Side covers will have to go too, checked, but earlier covers won't clear the later plastic air filter housings. Just having fun.

So after having to walk away for a while...I’m getting very close to having everything electrical working. The only thing I’m lacking is a horn and start lever. Everything else works. Fat blue spark at plugs. I could pop it over now but I’m on a mission.
Both horn and starter solenoid work by grounding through the handle bars. You may have to run a separate ground wire to the handle bars. My XS2 works fine as is, but some haven't and need the extra ground wire.

Did 72 run a ground from the frame up to the headlight bucket? Early bikes didn't. A mistake, they corrected a bit later. Turns out ball bearings DON'T like being electrical conductors.

Soooo...you are saying that gravity is what is holding the seat on at present.....?

...along with the occasional arc weld caused by contact with the battery terminals....?!!!?

:yikes:

Next!
This 78 standard is the last of three shabby relics that MaxPete and I got in Toronto this spring. ( The cafe is almost ready to go in for the safety inspection and the rusty now much improved 78 Special is back in the shed waiting for fresh inspiration.)
This 78 is going back stock, it has vacuum ports on the manifolds so I will be able to use a tank I have on the shelf that came to me with a red cote done and 2 new vacuum
petcocks.
Put some power to it and the starter works on the button and sounds great, right indicators blink and the horn bleats.
I will do the wake up drill on the motor to see what I have before I get too far into it.
