Single Stainless Brake Line Upgrade for 1976XS

In order to retain the stock brake light switch in the original location, I am going to have two braided brake hoses made up. I see disk brakes in '76 and earlier used a steel pipe at the terminal end of the brake hose. I have a question for those who have experience specifying hydraulic hoses: 1). Is there a hose fitting that will connect direct to the caliper? 2). If not, is a fitting available that will connect to the flared end of the pipe shown? I would like to use these guys to make the hoses. http://www.apexbrakes.com/custom.asp The selection tool to design the custom fabrication is at the bottom of their Web page. I'll use the #3 banjo fitting, but what about the other end?

Look up what they have for your bike. I got my brake line from them and have been totally happy. It came with two banjo bolts of the correct thread and washers. I was concerned with replacing the steel pipe with a banjo fitting . It has worked perfectly with no leaks. I did clean the paint of off the caliper. Only problem I had was I ordered it and then didn't hear anything from them. After 2 weeks I e-mailed them asking about my order, They promptly e-mailed me back saying it was shipping the next day. And it did. Good quality product, rubber sleeves were on the line as needed.

Wideload, check out my thread here for my ‘75 brake rebuild. I bought dual braided lines from Apex and they are a good company to deal with. My line and fitting measurements are in there for reference. I’m running cb750 bars. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

GLJ, Cool that they had a banjo set up for the old style caliper . Looks like you used a single line from the MC. If I use a single line, my stock brake light switch will be out of the circuit. Perhaps the best route for me is an upper and lower brake line built up to connect with the steel tubes (like Willis suggested for his bike) Seems like a good price at Apex too - $35 for both hoses.

I understand that you have a pressure switch in the middle of your brake line. Check their web site. They probably have what you need to keep your original brake light switch.
