Suggested oil for 1973 TX650

Beautiful brother! I thought so. Okay. I will give it a go and see how she works. My bike that I shipped from the states was my sisters. It was going to sit and waste away. Colorado is way above sea level. By a mile. Thinking my jets might be off. Happen to know what jets you run oz boy? My bike just landed. I will have t next week. Cheers my guy.

I have stock air filter but straight thru pipes on a 79 SG with BS34 carbies. You need to know what air filters and pipes you are running. Higher flow rates higher jets.
I imported mine from Japan and the jet setting was so screwed up and lean but I got lucky as they were in good shape.
Use the tech section carb guide as that was what I used to dial mine in. Read it...read it... and read it... is the key. You will have to take them off and on a few times but after that you will know them very well.
The earlier models had the BS38 so different jets used than mine. A few awesome carb gurus on here that I hope will jump in and guide you .5T is a dead set legend!!

Those links are good GggGary. Sounds like I could just run it this time and drain it in 1500k’s or so. After reading those two links it sounds like it would be a heavy oil. Won’t hurt if I run it but I can back down next oil change. Or should I just exchange it?

Right Ozboy. I am running a complete stock set up as I know at the moment. Stock pipe and muffler, carbs and filters. No pod filters that is. 73 Tx650! It being my first road moto and not a motocross bike I have a lot to learn. Got it off my sis to keep it from rotting away in the back yard. Going to work on it myself and take care of it. Your tip about working on the carbs is dead on. Reading, reading and more reading. Then taking it apart once or twice. Then I should be a bit more comfortable. Once I receive it after import next week I will be going through it/ will have it in my hands. That will answer a whole lot if questions.

I would first confirm you have the 73 carbs then check that the jetting is about what this 5t chart shows.

From Colorado, it is prolly jetted quite a bit leaner.
A TSB from a 78, not the jetting your carbs have, but an idea of what you might find as afar as changes from stock....
