Hi Lo switch

Hi Jim, as far as I can tell the hi/lo appears to be a mirror image of the on/off… unfortunately I don’t have “regular” access to a 3D printer, so no plans along those lines…

Believe it or not...many public libraries now have 3-D printers and they will print small parts from files for free or nearly free.

Odd job - if you PM me, we can arrange to get the file and perhaps I can get a few parts cranked off.

Pete

... The early switches suffered a lot of failures because the part that passes through the switch housing, that the button screws to, is very spindly. They really beefed up the later models. I am oh so careful now when working my switches.

Absolute ditto.
Mine has a crack at the very end of the screw hole.
Keep that left switch clean and well greased...

Hi Pete, in keeping with the spirit of your request I can make these available to anyone that is truly stuck.

For those interested PM me, and keep in mind that this a very specific part, it is for the “on/off light switch” on the left side 72/73 (Edit 70-73 as per TwoMany's post below) switch assembly. The lever arms on this assembly are 2.0mm thick; later years were much thicker at 3.5mm. I’ve noted in rummaging through scrap yard bins that Yamaha embossed the bottom of the light switch assembly with a number “YHAXXX”

On my 73 assembly it is “YHA205”, I’m not sure that this “on/off light switch” will work with other variations of this left side switch assembly.

I think I can help clear this up.

This amalgam of the early 70--73 parts manuals shows left switch assembly part #3, and the myriad of part numbers used for that switch.

Here's pics of the undersides of my (2) '71 XS1Bs, for both the early and late versions. Note that the 306 XS2 switch (frosting black) first appeared on the later '71 XS1B. Also note that they are both embossed with "YHA205".

This shows that the '71 switches have 2mm (0.080") thick lever arms.

From previous threads on these switches, I feel very confident that all the 70-73 left handlebar switches are mechanically identical, the only differences being:
- Color of the body (aluminum or frosting black)
- Paint color used for the lettering and hack marks (black, white, red, none)
- Possible differences in the wire sheathing and connectors.

In summary, I'm very confident that the On/Off switch pieces are identical and interchangeable within the 70-73 switch model years. Same with the "mirror-imaged" Lo/Hi switch pieces...

The Hi Lo switch on my 83 Heritage L/H controls is broken and im wondering if the actual switch inside the body can be purchased??
Or, is there another year/model/ bike which will fit or if somebody has one they want to sell me ?? ( im in the UK )
Thankyou

Hi,

Do you still need the switch? I have one you can have for postage if you still need one.

Cheers
