I also didn’t change any of my wiring from it running prior so I don’t get why swapping the wires made it start up?

Got strong spark both sides?
If you think your chain is off a tooth, check your timing dynamically with a timing light. That'll put that idea to rest. Then do what gggGary suggests.

Swapping wires fixed it because you did inadvertently change your wiring from it running prior.
