Nutrition health and Weight loss

I was T2 diabetic pre staged... so Sugar is the enemy..that includes bananas...anything with high carbs is bascially sugar...if you are a runner then your metabolism is geared to burn the extra carbs you need to maintain exercising.
Exercise has to be thought as incidental..like in the case of doing yard work..or it has to be recreational..where the benefits of exercise are brought about through enjoyment of a physical activity..be it running bicycling..tennis..etc...if its thought as work or just exercise per se..then it is tedious...I haven't dieted..i have made lifestyle changes...

thats exactly right max but you know I realise that some of us will never change our way of thinking. We are too conditioned and strongly resist change. We are largely creatures of habit because we fear change and doing what we have always done is reassuring and comforting . it doesn't involve anything strange or different and there is no risk if we just stick to what we have always done.

it takes a real shock like Diabetes or Coronary heart disease to make us wake up and see the damage we are causing to ourselves

Even today I find it really strange to sit and eat a beef burger with a huge cheese sauce and brocalli as my main meal. All that fat and protein and virtually no carbs . I still have the occasional pizza and chips once a month but because I'm never hungry on fat and protein I don't miss the carbs like I thought I would.
before last month I had not eaten a single burger in over 30 years ...........imagine that ! :yikes:

Its not the burger..its the bun...I was in a Wendy's fast food burger restaurant and i researched the Single burger with cheese ..it came to 36g of carbs...but without the bun it is only 6g

you'll have to explain that one to me Gary its gone completely over my head lol...:laugh2:
...........

do exercise that involves thinking it can be as simple as walking off path in the woods the old hand eye coordination thing. One of my goto's is firewood cutting lots of physics involved all the way through the process. Not that you need to take up heating your home with wood but find an activity that's challenging both mentally and physically. It'll improve sleep, mind and body health. We ain't lions. Not even lap dogs, or shouldn't be anyways.

I have cut out all fast food..breads..pizza...bagles..but since i have reached my goal weight..I can re introduce some extra carbs back into my diet...Occaisionally i will go out to eat a breakfast that inclusdes a good southern bisquit and other times its a bagel...or part of a pizza..but it isnt every day..but it is perhaps several time a month..
Everytime i go out of Ketosis i gain maybe 1 or 2 lbs..but in a day or 2 it comes back off...

peanut; what exercise are you doing?
My goto when the stomach expands is to start a project requiring a bunch of exertion. Can't stand "excercise" per say but like toomany landscape type work is a great way to shrink a belly.
Aye..all my neighbors have lawn tractors..i have a self propelled push mower..it takes about 2 hours to mow my yard ..and i typically lose 4 lbs of water weight in the proecess..it always amazes me how well that works..In some instances...I have been able to keep that weight off..but mostly it comes back because one needs to be adequately hydrated.
As for mental exercise while doing a physical activity..That is an excellent point...
Back when i was a runner i would do wwhat is called a concious meditation..Where i am in full balance physically and mentally while i am performing physical work...otherwise known as homeostasis...

yes indeed .......but for the past 30 years every government and health body has been telling us it is the burger not the bun. Its difficult to shake off an ingrained 30 year habit in just a few weeks without it feeling a little strange .......bit like going out without your wallet

exercise is a modern invention because so many of us have become obese and diabetic due to eating an unhealthy diet.

Nobody exercised back in the 40s and 50s even the 60s we didn't need to because we ate healthy whole foods we prepared and cooked ourselves and we didn't continually snack all day and night on carbohydrates pastry cake biscuits bread rice etc so we wern't over weight and had no need to exercise.

Don't get me wrong I love sport and have been a successful athlete and swimmer but it wasn't to lose weight or get fit ...just the love of it and the competition with myself. My Father and Grandfather both lived well into their 90s and neither one exercised a single day in their lives !

I really enjoy jobs like cleaning T cutting and polishing my campervan or other essential jobs which give me great satisfaction and get my heart pumping a bit and I love my power walks in the countryside its the few times I can clear my mind of everything and just be in the moment

Processed foods..fast foods..is a product of the 20th century... And as a result..obesity..high cholesterol..diabetes heart disease are all commonplace in some form in most adults today..Before the 20th century there was almost no such thing as a fat or obese person..If they were fat they were a freak in a circus side show...as an exception..nowadays its the thin person who is the freak...LOL
A sad commentary on our times..is when you are losing weight..you go shopping for new clothes only to find almost nothing in your size in stock..everyone is 40" and 50" wide..worse in the southern USA where fat rules..I had to get the manager of Wally World to have them stock some pants that were under 40"..Under 36"..geez I am a 30" but fit more comfortably in a 31" waist.so difficult to find these days...just shakin my head...

BTW I turned 67 yesterday and i have complete control over my health and my body..that is worth more than any measure of material wealth..I couldnt be any happier...Those coming to the rally will see first hand when they meet me..and i cannot wait for the VYR...
Before..at 205# and full of sugar

Looking good on it mad max.

I love my running. Been doing it now for 11 years, started at 40 having never run before.

It’s great to get outdoors, let off some steam, keep fit, meet people. Good for the body, mind and soul.

you're so lucky to be able to run. I have never been able to run further than 1/2 mile .......even as a kid .

I think that I would really enjoy it . I did some training a couple of decades ago for some Triathlons but even then I couldn't run far .
I have a heavy preponderance of fast twitch muscle from sprint swimming and shot and discus so I'm not suited to endurance events . I have managed a couple of 120 mile hilly cycle rides in one day but my weight was supported on the bike

I used to love to run..in Arizona...starting in Jan...run in the "heat of the day" 10 miles..by summer it would take 2 weeks to acclimate to the hot weather but after that i could run in the heat of the summer..when everyone else was retreating indoors or in their airconditioned vehicles..i would be out there running in the heat..stopping every 2 miles along my route for water...I was a Phys. Ed. major at the Univ. of Ariz...but I just ran for the love of it...Miss it now ofc but i dont think my arthritic old bones would like it anymore...

Ouch on bicycle seats..these new fangled bicycles dont have any seats..I would love to have an EliptiGo bicycle but around here there are no bicycle lanes and people will run you off the roads...but i still think this is a neat invention...I like the MSUB..or the Mtn bike off roader..that would be awesome..lots of woods and trails around here...I have owned alot of bicycles but never anything like this..

Peanut, have I got a plan for you.
My firing range needs cleaning up.
Could use some help, trees and brush cut and hauled off.
It's only about 150 yards.

The weather's perfect for such an adventure. Temps in the upper 90s (35°C), dewpoints in the upper 70s (25°C). Like a sauna.

Actually quite steamy.
Can you pronounce "sultry"?
How about "smarmy"?

Hungry? I can show you how to prepare cactus.

Yummm.
(Actual sound uttered when eating is *caaacht*, which may be the origin of the name)

I can introduce you to the world of muzzleloaders.
You could fire my Brown Bess.

Then, for your protein, using only round ball only, harvest some venison.

Or, these things...

If you have a good recipe for Bambi sauce I may have some free time coming up.
Not much into black powder but I used to like shooting my 45s.
