What have you done to your XS today?

Yeah, rare to have a loose clip.
I have Teflon buttons in my HD that I rebuilt 2 years ago, quite an expensive build - they cannot come loose lol.
Big bore will be more fun anyhow.
Looking at your mill it has auto down-feed - will your bore the cylinders yourself?

I'mnot sure which way the clips were facing so that could have been a factor too.

No, unfortunately the mill is worn enough that boring that big it'll chatter no matter what I do. There is a good shop here that I'll use. Anyone in the Tacoma, WA area should check them out if they need cylinders bored, the name of the place is Action Cycle. I've taken a couple things there and had fast turn around with good work. I took an XR200 there for a big bore and in 3 days the cylinder was done and the valve seats cut, for only $150. It's in the guys backyard, but he and his son have been doing it for decades, both know their stuff and are friendly.

I probably should have brought this up in my top end thread.....
I bought 2 wrist pins from MikesXS for the SG. They were just a hair too long. Don't remember how much... just a smidge... but just enough that the outboard circlip wouldn't properly seat. It would *almost* fit the groove but if you looked close... it wasn't seated. I do recall at the time it irritated me muchly 'cause I had to put 'em in the Atlas and skim a smidge off one end.
So... were they Mikes wrist pins?

I didn't know that. I just know that years ago when I needed a cylinder bored other machine shops gave me his name and number for bike related work. At that point I figured he had to be good for guys working at shops to recommend him. I wasn't disappointed and later found out a bunch of bike shops go to him for machine work.

They were the clips that came with the cruizinimage pistons. Here's a pic of one from the other piston.

Oops misread above. The wrist pins came with the pistons, so cruizinimage. Everything seemed to seat fine.

Ouch - well, at least there is a fix that is not entirely unattractive (i.e. the big bore).

That clip pic, wtf ? Why would the circlip have that extra long tail bent into the center of the wrist diameter?
Trouble waiting to happen with centrifugal force in the mix
Edit lol, centrifugal force hmm , I guess that is not correct terminology for the for the up and down forces

Oh, crap! Youze guyz have uncovered a serious problem.

A quick check of Cruzinimage's piston kit offerings shows a preponderance of wrong wristpin clips!

Now, the way they *should* be.
His 256 piston kit.

Those "bent tail" wristpin clips are certainly asking for trouble...

Couldn’t do much. I’m trying to prepare for a hurricane. Outside of loading up with 45 gallons of non ethanol gas for my generator I managed to get by a friends house and pick up a chain and polish my steering dampener knob. Still not sure how it goes together. Any help? Bob?

Shabby '78/Good Bones '78
I spent most of the day on the "cafe" replacing the fork oil and finishing off little things for the safety inspection. Just have the turn signal dash indicator light to fix, that is for tomorrow.
So to relax, I continued my clean up and recommissioning of my shabby '78 which in my view has good bones. Uncut frame except for the gas tank mounts, complete unmolested harness, air boxes still on the carbs with some nice aftermarket filters, and no rash on the instruments or other vulnerable spots. The plan is to get the motor to start to see what I have before I get too far along.
