Nutrition health and Weight loss

you have my sincere sympathies max. My partner suffers that sort of debilitating chronic pain also, although with her it is diagnosed as Fibromyalgia because Doctors haven't a clue what causes all the symptoms. Recent research is revealing that most chronic disease is inflamation caused by Insulinemia or metabolic syndrome ie too much sugar leading to Insulin resistance, even gout is now shown to be alleviated by a low carb diet with zero refined carbs
Have you been checked for Weils and Lyme disease ?
Lyme disease yes..dont know about Wells

Great thread going here, peanut.
Learning new things.
Trying to unlearn old things.

I recall, about 20 years ago, the push on oatmeal. Supposedly found that it helps to reduce cholesterol. So, now it's on the "avoidance" list?
Hoping for more weight loss here, but have an additional challenge. Lymphedema in the left leg. About 15 years ago, they found that my left leg weighed 20lbs more than the right. Working on it...

Of all the grain based cereals, plain rolled oats bought loose are the healthiest, provided that nothing is added to them.I absolutely love my porridge but am unable to eat it anymore. it is a carbohydrate so not good for Diabetics .

oats have a slow energy release but the sugar released from the breakdown of the oats like any other carb still spikes Insulin production so the liver converts the glucose to fat and stores it around our body

Fat or protein don't produce a release of Insulin from the Pancreas so it doesn't get deposited around the body which is why people lose weight easily on a low carb ,high fat & protein diet .

its all about how the body deals with the various foods we eat .

Recent studies have produced some very interesting results about Cholesterol.

We all know that cholesterol is essential to life and that every single cell in the body contains cholesterol ....its used as the cell membrane.
No cholesterol ...we die.........

Cholesterol is so essential to life that our bodies actually makes 80% of all the cholesterol we need daily . Most of us get very little cholesterol from our diet.

There are Numerous research tests that have shown a direct correlation between high cholesterol levels and low coronary heart disease and strokes in over 50s . It seems that high cholesterol levels in the over 50s actually lowers our risks of a stroke and coronary heart disease .!
I'll see if I can find the reference and post it tomorrow

weils not wells max .:) You can commonly contract it from rats urine in water like swimming in lakes and rivers. triathletes get it .

Thanks for that..i have a cataract in my left eye so things are getting dark...regardless i dont swim in lakes or rivers anymore..in fact i dont even go in the Ocean...

Weils can be contracted anywhere that there are rats..... you could get it from handling or kissing your dog you don't need to go swimming.

I wasn't suggesting that you might have either but its surprising how many people are not properly diagnosed with Lyme and Weils disease . Tick borne bacterial and viral diseases are often not properly diagnosed and can be devastating .

No rats here they're all in Washington DC...LOL...We live right on the edge of forests so when outside i am careful check myself for ticks...we have a bigger problem with these very tiny mosquitos that are active all day long...If you are in the shade..they will seek you out..very sneaky little bastards..
Weather has dried up and so has the arthralgia..have managed to delay the next round of shots by a month so far. It is supposed to be nice and dry warm and sunny this Labor Day weekend..so i am in agreement with this...;)

so have you planned a blast somewhere on the bike ? ;)

Ah,..well no ..I'm currently bikeless..Planning to cut the yards today and reduce my mass a tad further...I wont have a bike until the end of Sept. I believe...That is the plan...

Interesting.."boderline malpractice".. Indeed this is the problem..we're over medicalized..over drugged and poorly advised...its systemic...
https://kvoa.com/news/n4t-investiga...estigators-what-your-doctor-may-not-tell-you/

yes its systemic around the World.
This is the key paragraph in this article

'Crawford works at Northwest Allied Physicians but is speaking for himself. Regarding lifestyle changes he also said, “It is sad that physicians are not offering the most powerful tool we can give patients to actually reverse their chronic medical issues. None of their prescription medications can do that.

The simple fact is that no medication can cure or reverse chronic illness.
Only diet is capable of reversing chronic illness because it is poor diet choices that causes most chronic illness

Equally damning...
Dr. Crawford said, “Over 80 percent of all our chronic medical problems are caused by our lifestyle and primarily our poor diet. We don’t get training in that field so we’re not taught to promote that lifestyle.”

yes its a sad fact of life but once we truly see and understand this we are free to take responsibility for our own health and no longer rely on or trust the medical profession .
On that day we can choose to stop unhelpful medication and change our nutrition and lifestyle to improve our health and tackle the causes of our chronic health issues like Diabetes Fibromyalgia, High blood pressure, Arthritis,. Dementia, Asthma, crohn disease maybe even cancers

I have always had an aversion to presrciption drugs...so when something prescribed was making me sick..i knew it had to go and that I needed to find a different way... My arthralgia meds are basically NSAIDS so they are effective.,,I dont have any aversion to them...But relocating to a desert climate would vastly reduce my need for this drug. I am very weather sensitive it seems...

yes drugs have their benefits for some conditions. I use Nsaids and for my back I use naproxen (anti-inflamatory) and I have to take Levothyroxin because we cannot obtain natural dessicated thyroid here in the UK Like you I have always been very anti drugs of any sort but when you get old and sick you sometimes have little choice.

I may be old but I still get morning wood.
Two mornings in a row.
That's about 1/2 a full cord of ash each load.
Diet? I do'n need no stink'n diet.

Next up going for a relaxing motorcycle ride.

All this outdoor activity, tree trimming, land clearing, hassling with a new storage building, has changed my 20-years-going insomnia. Used to be that I could rarely get more than 3 hours sleep at a time. Last week, my sleep monitor showed that I got a solid, uninterrupted, 11 hours sleep! Been getting 4-6 hour chunks of sleep now...

Glad to hear you have broken this cycle of insomnia...I'm not sleeping due to my arthralgia..again..I cant ignore the symptoms any longer..I was due for shots almost 6 weeks ago..but the dry weather helped me put that off.. Called the Dr and tmrw will pay the Orthopedic clinic a visit..Looking forward to 3 or 4 months pain free...With all this humidity creeping up from Hurricane Dorian..we are well out of the dry cycle we enjoyed most of the summer...ugh..tired of this sauna bath...

For sure hard labor, sleep travel hand in hand...
Less the labor was so hard, pain interrupts the sleep. :notworthy:

getting this back on track lol ;)
weight this week now 220 lbs another 3 lbs to go to reach my initial target weight which will be a reduction of 27 lbs .

This weight loss has been achieved over a 6 week period simply by eating less carbohydrates and eating more fats and protein to compensate.

No cake, biscuits, porridge, rice, pizza or bread or pre-cooked meals or takeaways.
Lots of eggs, meat ,cream, butter, hard cheese, fish etc with vegetables being the only carbs

At no point in the past 6 weeks have I felt in the least bit hungry and I have eaten until satiated .

I am happy that this is a highly nutritious diet containing all the essential minerals and vitamins I need . Most importantly it is at last a realistic sustainable long term diet and lifestyle so no more yo-yo dieting losing weight only to put it all straight back on again once normal eating is resumed.

Factoid 1. ....there is not a single essential mineral or vitamin contained in any carbohydrates that our bodies require.!
Factoid 2. ...humans can live without consuming a single carbohydrate (that includes all veg and fruit and grains) ..provided that sufficient fats and protein are consumed.
