Vote for the XS650s you'd like to see in the 2020 XS650 Calendar!

xs650-calendar-2020-vote-now.jpg

It's time to Vote!

This will be the eighth year for the XS650 Calendars! As usual, Shawn (samoran1) is putting them together for us. The nomination stage is over and the ones that were nominated, seconded, and accepted are ready to be voted on. There are 26 this year. Click here to see the nomination thread.

This is the voting thread. There will be 13 bikes in the calendar (the calendar will include January 2021). The bike with the most votes will be on the cover and also have its own month. Voting will end on September 26th. You can vote for as many bikes as you want (multiple selections allowed). You can only submit your votes once, and only existing members will be able to vote. Accounts created after the time of this post won't be able to vote.

Nominees, feel free to post more photos and details of your bike in this thread. If you want me to replace any of the photos in this post, let me know. I used what was provided in the nomination thread. I will post up to two photos of each bike in this post. You can add more to this thread.

For the top 13: To get these calendars printed and shipped on time, samoran1 needs all of the pictures for the calendar ASAP. He will set a deadline. Once the voting is underway, if you see you're doing well, get your pictures and information ready to send. You will need to send 3 or 4 high-quality photos of your bike with no logos or watermarks (min dimension to be posted later) and your name, location, bike year/model, and SHORT bike bio via email to Shawn. He'll post his information in this thread or send it to the top 13 via private conversation. You need to be the owner of the photos or have permission to use the photos for the calendar. In the event that people are unable to supply photos in time, the next runner up will be included instead. So the close runners up (14, 15 and 16) may wish to have photos ready to send in.

After the voting is complete and the calendar is put together, a thread will be created with the final product and a link to an ordering page. There will be a limited time to order, so check back often for the ordering thread. A link to the ordering thread will be posted in this thread as well as on the main page.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make this calendar happen so far!

Here are the nominations. Vote using the poll above.

We have a really great group of bikes this year! As usual, the text above was mostly a copy and paste from last year. I've updated the dates and other info, but if I missed something let me know.

Everyone asks about photos, so here's what I've gathered from previous years... Ideally the main photo should be 3375px x 2588px or larger. 10MP or better images should work well, but Shawn can usually work with 8MP photos. Just send full-size pictures from your camera or phone and you should be good to go.

Another thing, Cafefill has two bikes in the running this year. In previous years when this has happened, if both bikes make the top 13, only the one with the highest votes will be in the calendar. I believe this is how we handled that anyway.

Hi all. First let me say thanks to Jim and Mailman for the nomination and 2nd, and to all the members who have shown interest in the No Theme Build over the last year. I`m going to post a couple of pics as the bike sits now. You`ll see that there are no front brake lines. They are 50 miles away in Kansas City and were supposed to be here today. Didn`t happen.:( I`ll install them and take better photos immediately when they arrive. Posting these for now because after all this is the USPS I`m dealing with. Again thanks to everyone for your interest in my build and thanks to Shawn and Travis for the great work they do to make a XS650 calendar possible.:thumbsup:

Some EXCELLENT looking bikes here. Missing a couple I thought would make the cut but great looking offerings just the same.
Split my votes up between half for special builds, particularly those that appeared more challenging, and half for great looking examples of stockers of many years.
Inspires me to have mine finished for next year.

I picked up the 80SG in 2014 (15?) for 500 bucks. On the test ride the petcock leaked so bad my shoe wound up soaked in gas... :yikes: The only electrics that worked was the iggy. It had a gawdawful rattle can paint job and a king/queen seat.... she was butt ugly. It sat forlornly in the garage until 2017 when I retired from full time work and joined this awesome site. You can read about the restoration here. It's a long slog that went off the rails many times. She's mostly stock with a few subtle mods.
Thanks to all the awesome folk here, the total cost of the resto... including the bike purchase is a little over 2 grand. All the work... paint, engine, welding and electrical was done by me.
After looking at all the fantastic bikes nominated here, I'll be surprised if this ol' girl makes the cut... stock Specials don't get much lovin' 'round these parts...:(
But... winters comin' and I'll have the Speed Twin ready for next yrs competition.:sneaky:
Shoutouts!!
Travis and Gary, you guys do an awesome job keeping this place going.... and to Shawn for the excellent calendar work
Phil and Pete... thanks for the nomination and second. I really appreciate it.
If I listed all the people here that gave me good deals on parts, pointed me north when I got lost :er: and just generally encouraged me along the way, I'd need 2 more comments. Thanks guys!!
Here's a before and after.....

Hey everyone! My truing stand and spokes arrived tonight, and my polish is arriving tomorrow. I hope you’ll give me a day or two to get these wheels rebuilt and polished before you make your final decision- I’ll hopefully have some great pics of the bike posted by this weekend! I know my current pics aren't the greatest- patience is a virtue!

I usually only vote for 13 bikes, but this year there are just so many great and diverse bikes. Couldn't contain the voting. Good luck everyone. It will be a great 2020 calendar.

Well,I don't have so many photos of the bike finished, take many during the build, but not many when finished...
But hera are some, and a link to a short video when testing/adjusting the revlimiter….the bike runs good, and a blast to ride on the track!
Next year I Think it maybe will be converted to roadlegal,or keep it "Raceready",we will see.
Thanks a lot for the honour to be selected to be among all the nice bikes in this calendar voting!!

Great bikes everyone! I’m hoping to get some more pics in this thread before voting ends. Not a whole lot of choppers like mine in the running but these resto’s and trackers are f’ing beautiful.

Here...I’ll just throw these in here because I’m not sure if I’ll have time to get better ones before voting ends.

Thanks again to Bob (Mailman) for nominating my '76,
and to Shawn and Travis for all their efforts in putting together another cool calendar.

As I mentioned in the nomination thread, this was my first XS650 purchase, a 2012 garage sale find @ $500. I had been looking for a year or so for an XS project, and this '76 was in rough shape, barely running, but it called out to me like a mangy pup at a dog shelter.

All work accomplished myself, including the paint job. I stripped it down to the bare frame and painted each part outside in the driveway. There are a bunch of pics in my profile media of the restoration. I can't imagine having done this work without the support of the members at this forum.

The cafe seat is from Vietnam. Made the rectifier with Radio Shack components. Ignition is a vintage Dyna II system, no longer made for the XS650, but the company did in fact respond substantially to some questions I had.

I ride this bike regularly throughout Upstate New York; its a great runner.

Okay, after much sleep deprivation and taking a half day off yesterday, I have successfully polished and rebuilt my rear wheel, along with a new X ring chain and new sprockets. The rear is one tooth less than stock. I even managed to avoid pinching my inner tube for the first time since owning this bike. I changed her oil, checked the cam chain tension and timing, and got her all shined up for a calendar shoot. She’s all ready for the DGR next weekend. Here’s some nicer pics for your consideration!!!
