I need to replace the gas cap seal on my 81 xs650 special. But the one I found for the bike, 2M0-24641-00-00, does not look like the one on the bike. see pic. Does anyone know a source to get one like the one in the pic.
But it doesn't hurt to take it apart and check the vent passage. It's often plugged, with a good seal it'll kill your motor LOL. Pain in the butt to take apart though. Worse to put back together.
That's a job even I can do! I recommend buying the OEM Yamaha seal. Partzilla will be cheap enough. I've never had good luck with rubber stuff from Mike's. OEM on that stuff when available. FWIW, not just Mike's. All the aftermarket seems to be inferior.
I have to be honest. I never used the Mike's XS seal. Only the OE ones. I put it out there because of my XSperience with other aftermarket rubber bits, usually from Mike's XS, but others as well. So, maybe I'm out of line on this.
Mine lasted exactly 2 days. Swelled and turned mushy after the fist fill up followed by a lap full of gas on a fill up. It was too large to begin with and got larger after fuel hit it.
Get it from Boats. Yamaha original. Never had an issue.
Yep Mike's is Shite!! I had mine on for about a month before I put the old one back on after soaking in silicone oil. Replace it with genuine and no issues 2 years down the track.
Thanks for the replies. I was about to purchase the $9.00 one from Mike's. I'll get a genuine one instead.
It is beyond me as to how anyone could manufacture or sell a gas cap seal that is not gas resistant.
