Hi, I am new to this thread. Not yet a XS owner but hopefully will be soon. I have always wanted a Flat track style bike and this will be my project for next year!.

Hi WIDE and welcome,
XS650s can be worth a mint if they look and run nice ain't been messed with.
Carefully assess the worth of whatever XS650 you buy before you remove anything that can't be put back again, eh?
If it was me, which it aint. I think I’d start with a bike somebody had already made a mess of. Bit like buying a rescue dog. Give it another chance.
F.
My bike started as a rolling basket case. But what you can do with that depends on your skills and tools. I'm a machinist by trade and have a mill and lathe at home opening up a bunch of options.
It'll cost more than you initially think too. I have about $4k in mine and might have been able to do it a little cheaper, but that's a big might.
Forks are 2012 zx6r big piston forks, with a heavily modified cb550 hub, swingarm is from a 93 fzr400rrsp with fzr600 linkage 2015 r6 shock and 78 kz750b hub. The whole build thread is here( http://www.xs650.com/threads/sumotrack.48483/ ) it's got a bunch of 1 off bits or heavily modified bits from other bikes.
