Hey All
Finally got around to fixing my 'central steering' issues with the old roller bearings and replaced with new cone taper bearings. I am having an issues with the chrome headlight ears and a large gap after installing them. It is a nice snug fit usually but now it seems the gap where it should fit in the upper tree is large. The races are all the way seated and rechecked twice. Measured the bearings against the spec sheet listed and they all seems fine but just a few mm at most under spec so that's fine. Both top and bottom races are in spec too. I can't for the heck of me work out why this is happening. I know that the top bearing is 5mm above the neck per all other recommendations. Laying the bearings side by side and they seem perfect.
So what am I missing here?
I have installed thousands of bearings in my time but seem to hit this height gap issue on the headlight ears. Attached photos of the bearing and I will assemble it together later and take photos of the gap.

Hey TwoMany it is about the only way to go is gap it up with thicker rubber washer. About to reinstall it now and get some photos. Lucky it is all in great shape and races and bearings are coming off easy.
Thanks

Hey does anyone know the Yammie part number for the rubbers that go on the ears. I can't seem to find them. I can make a smaller rubber washer for the bottom under the badge but need these as one was missing from PO.
