What have you done to your XS today?

High winds and heavy rain here in North Yorkshire. The bike chained to a tree outside went over, the wind having caught the cover. Thankfully she went over away from the security chain so didn’t hit the ground! Problem then was the side stand had gone up and I couldn’t unlock the chain or she'd have gone right over. In the end I managed but ache in a few places. Going to have to get her down those stone steps and in through the kitchen into the back.

I like your style Fawksey. looks as if your handlebars are the “Standard” model bend ? If you should happen to pass by a standard model master cylinder to have as a spare and rebuild you may see an advantage of the cast mount shape and angle which the master cylinder would sit at. Maybe grab it !

Yes they are the standard bars. Thanks for the heads up re the brake fluid reservoir. Think it’ll make a difference? The brakes are bad enough for me to throw an anchor out. Or I’m just too used to the modern Triumph Street Triple.

Well, the master cylinder change alone would not necessarily improve braking performance. However a properly functioning MC with improved modern brake line and caliper maintenance with new pads will help. So many of us try to improve those later style front brakes because by now they are all just terrible. If you were satisfied with it, you’d likely be busting up your tranny down shifting and engine braking lol. My own personal preference is to add the left caliper used with the original MC but others prefer to change components for more modern. Suppose it’s all decided by your style and recourses available.

Check out PDR tools to push the dent from inside the tank, if you know it was done you can see the repair but from 6 feet my tank repair isn't obvious.

Interesting i haven't ever seen a tool like that i am an coach worker by trade so i was just going to fill the tank with water and pull and work the dents down
 
Well, I did a couple of quick things today. Recently I had my XS2 out for a spin and later at home I noticed my rear brake switch just dangling by its wires. For some reason it doesn’t like to stay tight where it’s mounted. So I put it back and snugged it up finger tight and secured it with a skinny little zip tie. There! Nice and secure and nearly invisible.

Next up, I’ve been looking for a low tech solution for charging my phone when I’m on a longer ride. I didn’t want anything mounted to my handlebars. So here is what I got. A battery tender USB adapter and a 6’ long charging cable.

The cable has a nice protective loom over it.

I had to fiddle around a bit to find a nice roomy route to lay the cable.

Then I’ll just run the cord into my tail bag, where I’ll keep my phone while it’s charging.

When I’m not using it, it simply rolls up and stashes in a pocket, and since both of my bike already have the battery tender plug wires to my batteries. The whole charging system is portable so I can use it for both bikes, it’s just plug and play! Purchased the components separately on eBay , $15 all in.
