Jim's TOTALLY awesome paint booth!

When painting the side covers, did you consider suspending them in a manner to allow them to be "horizontal" vs hanging vertical, thus if by chance you laid down too much material, you wouldnt get a run on the most visible flat portion of the tin?

That looks like a decent little "bonus room" you got started there. Are you going to put in another door (to get to the back yard)?
Yep.

No I didn't.

Finished framing the west side. Didn't have time to put the last sheet of siding up...

Re-framed the first section of the east side, which allowed me to tear out another section and add the raised foundation...

West wall is up now. Framed the second section of the East wall and did the third concrete pour. Change in weather has my joints achin' sumpin' fierce. We'll get there...

Yes to both.

Hi Jim,
If you can still see the ceiling you need more striplights and if you want to stay healthy always
wear a top of the line full face breathing mask, Tyvek suit & rubber gloves when painting.
The pigments clog your nostrils, the solvents rot your liver and the sanding dust rips your lungs out.

Little update... Sprayed the west wall with some cedar tinted sealer. Stuff is sposed to be good for 8 yrs. We plan on getting the house re-sided in the next year or two. So... good enough for now.

East wall is framed almost to the corner. You can also see the north wall framed to the doorway on the far side. Doorway will be about 6 ft just in case I need to put something wide in there like.... I dunno.... a sidehack maybe?

Ran into a slight snag. Original plan was to just build the raised concrete wall/foundation to the corner of the north wall. While I was tearing out the north wall, I discovered the dirt had worked it's way under the framing for it too.. it was all rotton. So.... another pour. I'll let it cure for a few days, frame it in and knock out the corner for the final pour.

The cracks in the pad have been there for the 20yrs or so that I've lived here and have never changed... So I've no qualms building over it. I'll fill 'em all in with concrete patch once the rooms dried in.

Jim, I like this. I need to do something like this but to just keep the bike in. It's under cover and covered but the damp, heat and cold take their toll. I also have to wait for a warm day if I want to paint something, like my tank I'm repairing. ( The coolest thing about this is the neighbors. Being an ex military mech, there ain't much you can't do.)

Last concrete pour. Dragged the Hobart out there to tie the rebar together on the previous 2 pours...

and poured the last section Tuesday.

It's gettin' down into the high 30's at night now, so I've had a few 60W bulbs keeping the concrete curing. Framed in the corner...

Actually, it wasn't quiet finished when I took that pic. I really did finish the framing...
... and finished the siding.

Hopefully I'll get the sealer on it tomorrow and start on the doors. Then I can work in warmth. :)
I've built quiet a few buildings in my day, but this is the first time I've ever framed one in underneath a finished room. It actually wasn't as stressful as I thought it was gonna be.

Looking good Jim! That’s gonna be a right proper little work space! Are you gonna insulate and sheet rock that space? And put up some nice LED light strips in there? It’ll be nice to be warm and dry in the winter.
Sorry for all the questions. :laugh2:

Yes to the insulation. I kinda like this plywood siding, so I might use that inside instead of sheetrock... haven't decided yet. And yeah... lots of LED lighting.

Double doors. One will be a normal entry door that I already have. You know... tight budget and all that. The other half I'll make with built in, replaceable exit air filters. There will be a hinged cover over the filters when not painting to keep the heat in... or out depending on the season.

Looks good Jim! I cant see from the pics but did you install a sill gasket between the top of concrete and bottom plate (first 2x4). Always moisture in concrete and its there just to prevent rot. Gonna be a nice room to paint for sure. JC

I had a bunch of tubes of concrete/wood compatible silicon door and window seal left over from a previous job.
Bein' a cheap ol' bastard... I just squeezed a bunch of that down. Should work just as good.
