Wanted - 1978 XS650 Standard Tin Wear in GREEN

I'm running behind here.......message off to New Hampshire. Green bits headed to Canada for paint matching ( now there's going to be more green machines than they first made?). GGGary..........I'm from Northern Florida.....the "Green" bike thing came from a story about the bike Dewayne Almond died on......or at least that was the tale. I kinda fell into that trap and this 78 I have in green is the first green motorcycle I've owned and I purchased my first motorcycle ( 1965 BSA B40E) in 1968. Machine........we'll see what we can do about getting you some Green side covers........have I mentioned that I have a friend (local) who can duplicate all the decals?????? Spot on matches. I'm getting several sets made up.

Later......a busy Gordon in NC....trying to finish up a project.....I NEED to retire.

No worries, when Green 78E tins do pop up Way Over Here on the west coast, I’ll be on em faster than a buttered bullet..

The search continues. Got cash. Want to turn your Green 1978 Standard tin bits into spending money??

I’m also on the lookout for a “good” XS650E gas cap with key......anybody?

WARNING LONG!!!!!!! I got to thinking about how this search for green bits might look like a classic case of hoarding. ( which I might be a bit guilty of with some stuff....nuff said) BUT......here's the Reader's Digest version. Some of you might remember me looking for a well sorted BLACK 1978 XS650E? That didn't pan out and I ended up with ONE each of the Green and Black Standard model for the year. Both were none runners, but with nothing obvious missing or amiss. I still like the Black model the best but grew fond of the Green (some of you will understand) Reality is setting in and I know I have to let the green one go....Even with the new outbuilding ( again, some of you will understand) I'm out of room. I have the Black model tagged and on the road.....it's down right now getting a few small things sorted after a successful trial period but it's a runner. I have to let the Green one go ( still just like I got it...dirt and grime included) but don't want it to lose anything......it's complete and in pretty good shape. The Green tank and side covers will go with it. I want a set of Green tin ware so if I want I can go Green. There is a member on here I consider a friend even though we've never met face to face ( understand?) and he's searching too. So that's two complete sets we're looking for. Yep.......you could just paint and decal a new set.....but for me it isn't the same. I've found ( off this thread) one set.....BUT the tank has some holes in the bottom and I'm still not sure what I'm going to do about that. ( I'm not a fan of sealers) . Sorry for the long post........still looking in NC....Gordon

:DLol.. Ya, and Way over on the Pacific side it's like looking for Bigfoot !

(I know that pic is a 70, but I like it too)

Jim......I have a friend who's local that has made decals for me in the past. ( mostly small Honda's tank and side covers) He has my tank and side covers as we speak but hasn't been able to finish them up. I don't push him and he doesn't charge me much.....I'm sure if i bug him he'll get them done but next go around he might pay me back. Friends are like that.

I'm kinda waiting for that paint code number to come out ( the side covers I have out on lend....I'm not in a hurry) and I'll see if I can come up with some decal sets......then there can be more Green models on the road than Yamaha intended......so goes the hobby.

Photos to follow.......to be continued Gordon ( who still hasn't gotten around to finishing the threads on camping and euro bars)

Gary, I understand completely and you’re already forgiven!

Friends don’t fuss at friends over our obsessions!

Gordon in NC who’s plan is to let my Green project go but have a Green tin ware set that I can swap out when I feel Green. I already have the stock Black tins and a nice set in Corvette Yellow.

Green Gold Jackpot !
Today I drove even further up the Interstate into WA towards Seattle than I am usually willing to go parts sourcing. See, after many months now of being as patient as a red head can be, the Montana connection (Jim) pulled through on communication and coordination of delivery. This tank is Very clean inside and will be used on my Black/Gold 78E when I get back to that very deserving stock bike project. I too will be waiting and watching for green side covers now.
Very good day here in the Windy, Rainy, and Soaking wet state of WA
:D
