Listening to what an old hoss is trying to tell me, XS1 wake up

We actually went to that Can-Am race week end, JRP1 and I were about 15, his dad took us to Road America for the first time. What a way to be introduced to racing. The 800+HP straight piped cars were some of the fiercest, unruly and LOUD racers ever built.

"The years 1967-1974 featured the Canadian-American Challenge Cup. This is perhaps the most fondly remembered racing series ever, as it had minimal rules. Two seats, fendered bodywork, and that was about it. Unlimited engines, fat tires, unimaginable speed. The early years were ruled by the McLaren team. They won five years in a row at RA, twice with Bruce McLaren and once each with Denis Hulme, Peter Gethin, and Peter Revson. In each instance, the race was no contest, as the orange McLarens simply were the best. Their stranglehold on the Can-Am was broken in 1972 when Porsche practiced extreme overkill. Porsche built a twin-turbocharged five-liter flat 12 engine that put out well over 1000 horsepower. They hired Roger Penske’s team to run the car, and as expected, they won as they pleased. George Follmer took RA in 1972 and Mark Donohue in 1973, each winning the season championship. The Can-Am was last held in 1974, its demise essentially due to its success. That is, with virtually no rules, only one or two teams could reasonably win, so the rest went home. But while it lasted it was most memorable. The fans reacted accordingly with the biggest crowds ever at RA until the top CART years of the mid-1990s."

Haha! That little inspection cover is straight off an old Triumph. It screwed in. I didn’t have a screwdriver large enough so I modified this huge flat washer. I had that washer hanging on my peg board with my tools for years after the Triumph was gone! That’s a great old bike Gary, it NEEDS rescuing! :geek:

Seems like this thread was active just yesterday. Poor weathervane got shuffled to the rear of the project line and couldn't sneak back to the front, so a little negotiation with Bill B and off it went for a makeover.
After loving minstrations the weathervane lives!
She did yeoman duty at the Ozarks Rally and now it's back at the shed of ill repute.
Full disclosure I pushed hard on Bill to get R done so I could pick it up at the ozarks rally.
I expected to do a bit of detailing, fiddle futzing and after round one this morning has it running great.
Clutch readjustment, set the front brake, figure I'm bedding in new shoes.
RH carb was overflowing so dropped the bowl changed float to a Mikuni from MMM, a few more parts swapped, fortunately I now have a couple of 72's so Can swipe some parts off those. ;^)
Got a rear view mirror on will add turnsignals and need to dig into the LH switch gear a bit. Off for some "test riding" (My life is hard) and I'll try to snap a pic or three.

Found my Phone camera does't show the natural colours. I think they camera is set up to try to make the photo bling a bit to appeal to the new generation but it just doesn't show what the eye sees

Played with your pic a bit.........don't know what the XS1 paint should look like, all the pics i have are different.

That's pretty close! by the time the paint looks right the rest of the pic ends up weird.
Pic with Bill in the parking lot gets the paint pretty close, it does have some shimmer where the light comes in at more of an angle.
This paint was matched to the bottom of an original headlight shell so sunfade wasn't an issue.

Played with the camera a bit last year when I painted some XS-1 stuff. This was the closest match to real life I could come up with.

I used that as a bit of a guide. Also have to take the light into account of the bike being outside.

@gggGary Yea there is a bit of green tinge to the alloy when i used the counter balance. Only did +4 on mid-tones using G...........did a bit of other stuff and that is all in the pic name and if you open it in another tab you can see what i done to your pic

Full sun is never the best conditions for getting a true paint colour anyhows. Good bright cloudy days........

I believe it’s got something to do with white balance (or so I’ve been told by my friends who shoot photos for a living). But candy greens just don’t seem to come through a photos without some work on your camera settings - you need a real camera to take a proper photo.

Off to a new chapter of life in Northern California.

Guess I was a foster parent.
truckers were very nice in spite of the shirt...
They apologised for the trailer, said HIS would never look that grungy but it was in the shop. We met out at a local truck stop and JUST beat the start of a rain shower.
Yet another orphan restored to riding condition. @BowlingSS
