In British Columbia, Any vehicle, car or bike over 25 years old qualifies for collector plates. You have to send in pictures with your application. They require that the bike not be modified from original. In other words ,no customizing. Although I have replaced the rototiller handlebars on mine with something a little better. I don’t think the bureaucrats that look at the pictures care. You also must have another vehicle registered as your principle driver. You are not supposed to use your collector vehicle for work or getting to work. Pleasure use only. The insurance for your antique, “pleasure use only” vehicle/bike is about 1/4 of regular insurance. If you get rid of your other vehicle you lose the collector status on your bike and your insurance goes up, because they assume your antique is now your principle vehicle. All in all, it is a pretty reasonable way of doing it. My insurance is dirt cheap and I consider all of my bike riding to be pleasure use anyway( unless you are riding through a deluge). There are a lot of retired people where I live. You see a lot vehicles, even pretty ordinary vehicles going around with collector plates on them.
