Friday, parts picking happened again.
$50 at a storage unit of XS stuff got me 3 wheels, 2 rotten BS38 carb sets, and an earlier style front caliper. So back home I’m digging into carbs and doing okay. 2 good brass floats/ needle/seats, and stuff to keep and some 77 diaphrams/slides to pass on.
Wheels to strip down, One to pass on.
Just another day of goofy local parts sourcing. Nothing wonderful but what the hey ...sshhh (gals re organizing the garage)

Tested myself on these Aluminum High Shoulder Takasagos. Always wondered if the old dirt bike survival skills would be enough on these wheels, without damage. Yes and No. It was a success to pry off old front tires. But, that’s as far as I want to go or recommend with trail kit levers lol. Now I have two wheels to strip spokes out of and clean up for a future idea.
And the nice chrome wheel is already sold locally.
Found these wheels for $10 each...

"Best Bike Ever" all cleaned up and gone to storage, parked beside 2 XS's for the winter.
A few years ago, I took pride in riding at least once a month in the off season - then I saw how even the clearest of roads in the salting weather have tiny chips of salt that gets into the craniest nook and starts rust. No more.

Timbeck, Oh, yeah man! I'm with ya'. MikesXS has some small 16 inch turn out mufflers. I like my "commando" knock-offs but these look like small "lake pipes" I wonder if anybody has tried these? Are they too loud? Do they rack? ( That would be a shame!) :)

I have these from my '80. 1-1/2" inlet. Drag Specialties. I'd like $50 + the ride. Good condition...never heard them though.

Tonight, the head got the valves installed. Sorted the gaskets for Top End installation. I hope to be riding this weekend. Last night, the rockers got ground for the VW Elephant adjusters. Tomorrow I'll go to Auto Hobby shop and use thier parts washer on the head and cover to rinse off the metal dust from all the grinding. I modified the piston pins clips. Shortened the tang. Pics soon.
