Not the swimming kind..

Looking at changing out my Speedo and Tach to something a lot smaller and sleeker. Something in the 2inch diameter range. Saw some cheap on ebay from China. Any recommendations?

Yeah, I've seen some on the ebay, and Mike'sXs. If you're not that concerned with accuracy (in some states, if it's got one, you're good to go), go for it. I was looking at the Mike'sXs mini speedo & tach (with the indicator lights) for "The Basketcase". :twocents:

My bike has XS650direct.com (Mike’s Canadian version) mini tach and speedo, with indicator lights. 3 years so far with no issues.

Those are the brackets that come with them, sort of triangle shape with three holes. Sure would be nice if the speedos were marked KPH and MPH. KPH are usually cheaper.

Cheap analog speedos and tachos:

I purchased an £8.50 Chinese made tacho via Ebay and it did not work. The replacement did not work and neither did another I purchased from a different seller. The £8.00 speedo, also made in China, worked at below 40 mph but above this it was all over the place. In the end I purchased a speedo and tacho for approximately £40 each. They are sold by many reputable motorcycle shops and have a stainless steel casing and are made in Taiwan. In the USA I have seen them sold for close to $40. The thing that identifies them is the stainless steel casing and the price close to $40. These look just like the cheap ebay models but work reliably so far. I now have 400 miles on mine and still working. Also, they do not have LED backlighting. They used filament bulbs which are easily replaced like on the original XS650 speedos. The cheap Ebay versions have onboard LED lighting which cannot be replaced should they fail. I also found that the Neutral Light on the Speedo requires power to work which is not the mode in which the XS works i.e. Neutral switch provides an Earth connection not Power.

Mind you the cheap Ebay tachos and speedos from China do look very nice all lit up at night....

I meant to comment that the MikesXS speedos and tachos suggest quality based on pricing.

Great feedback. Yes the cheap China ones look good and I ALMOST clicked purchase but hought to ask this group since the price seemed too good. Thanks for responding

The cheaper ones have two grounds and the wiring instructions lead you to believe that one of those grounds is strictly for the neutral light, so they should work with the XS neutral switch. That would be good, but, THEY ARE NOT WIRED LIKE THAT INTERNALLY. A relay can be used to compensate for that.
