New member PJC here introducing myself

Thanks Gary, I do spend time doing research here. I sure do appreciate the contribution you experienced folks provide. More to be done too Gary. Swing arm bushings, tapered steer head bearings. When the exhaust crossover finally rots through I'll replace system. I like the MAC 2x2. Tough part now is winter for me. Unheated detached garage/workshop. I'm toying with install of radiant LP heater with a 100lb tank.

LIVINGROOM!

Now Gary - don't you get that nice young man into trouble!

Hey Pat - I've somehow missed your thread - but in any event, welcome, from Canada's sunny southern coast in Windsor, Ontario!
Looks like you've got yourself a ball game - and you're nice and close to the Baron of Baraboo, home of one of the largest XS650 parts emporiums anywhere.

Thank you Pete! If I could I'd for sure move the lift into the living-room. Issue is steps & doorway, lol. I have a nice workshop in basement though, so component work is easy to do. gggGary-The Baron of Baraboo, that's a catchy title!

Yes, many of us favor nice, used original parts over the repops out there. The original stuff is just plain made better. I don't mind a little "weathered" look on most of this stuff, after all the whole bike is like 40 years old. The whole thing looks like that, lol.

Can you give me the link for that master cylinder please?
Not a link but search flea bay for Master Cylinder TTR250 XT225 and TW200, stock mirror threads in, (LH thread) stock brake switch plugs right into the new master or solder XS connector on new wires, either works. SS line is required.
The XS lever works better and bolts on those master cylinders, the dirt bike type levers are bit short and tend to hit the throttle/switch housing.

Always wanted a TW actually... Wondering if the old single-disc XS ran the same caliper as ours? Then it SHOULD be fairly plug-n-play?

Here's a link to the mc I bought. Be mindful that it is 14mm, and those who know here suggest that a 13mm is a better way to go. Also, the rim of the mc reservoir was finished as cast. Rough, and not a good seal surface for the top that has the rubber membrane imo. What I did was, starting w/150 grit abrasive paper (sand paper), sheet on a flat surface, work the rough edge seal surface flat until I had a defect free surface. Hold the mc with one hand, anchor paper to table with other, back and forth, around and around, careful not to get dust into reservoir. Anyhoo, this mc works aok, no leaks, front brake feels the same as when I had the Yamaha inclined mc in place. Also, the lever length is about same as the Yam mc, and clutch lever. I only use the left mirror, no right mirror.
