With my recently arrived 650C I got a pair of cast wheels bought by the original owner to replace the stock wheels but never installed. They look exactly like a 5 point star. Unfortunately my camera has a problem, and I don't have a smart phone so can't post any pics right now, but will do so as soon as I can figure out the problem. In the meantime anyone have an idea who might have made them? I don't know what Yama's own factory cast wheels looked like.

See my current post on Pentagram Star Wheels. If you decide not to use these I`m a buyer.

If the Star pentagon wheels you have are are for the XS650 then they are worth quite a bit of money. Don't get hoodwinked.

These wheels were made for several different models and makes. There have been a few XS500 Star Pentagon wheels that have been adapted to the XS650 but it requires spacers and a bit of work

Thanks folks, those are them, and yes they're for the 650. The original owner was fanatical and was constantly upgrading/improving, bought them from a dealer I believe, but never installed them. When in his early 60s had a major health issue, sold the bike to a collector who didn't want to see it cut up but rarely rode, I was lucky enough to get it from him. I'm kind of old-school and prefer original rims so leaning towards selling these, I don't want to rip anyone off but would appreciate knowing a reasonable and fair market value.

On those wheels I assume you can mount front disc brake rotors on both sides same as stock.
On the rear is it set up for a disc brake or a drum brake?
A pic of the other side of both wheels will tell us that.

The rear looks like the wheel on the left on both.

Can anyone tell me the approximate current fair market value? I have no idea.

Thanks, that means they are a straight up swap on disc brake models. Might look nice on my 75 with the disc brake conversion.

OK wise guys LOL.... seriously though, it's not like I can look 'em up on eBay, which may be where they will go if not through here!

With these wheels you have disk brakes front and rear.................

Spoke wheels, (74-79 Standards disk brake front 19"/drum brake rear 18"), are worth more than factory Mag wheels.......... Factory Special Spoke wheels are 19" front, (disk) and 16" rear, (drum) ................. 78SE/79SF-80SG mags, (16"rear/19"front), have disk brakes front and rear......... 81SH factory mags, (16"rear/19"front), have disk brake on the front and drum Brake on rear.

Check out the price a good set of Factory Spoke wheels, (good spokes, Hubs and rims), and this would be a gauge to what the pentagram wheels are worth at a min..............Being Genuine XS650 pentagram wheels they could be worth half as much again as a good Spoke set or more due to there rare-ability

Totally depends on the want of the buyer, (will find some cheepskates here), and if a trade will satisfy your need..........don't forget these are NOS not used.

I know a guy who paid 'bout 200 bucks for a used set in good condition.... and they'll need shims as they ain't XS650 wheels.

Well I bought two of them. Got the front off CL for 50 then had to pony up about 120 for a rear that isn't XS650 and needs spacers. (one of these daze)....

Factory NOS rims (for spoked wheels) sometimes on ebay for around US$200.

I'm guessing at least US$300 or 350 a piece for NOS Yamaha XS650 Pentagram Star Wheels?

I'm thinking it would be something like that, txxs. Can't be many like this floating around.
Would $500 for the pair be reasonable?

Yes they are rare, usually part of a kit with a disk brake caliper, carrier, maybe master cylinder, with installation kit and instructions. This was sold in the era when the XS's were drum rear brake 75-77ish. The wheels were made in the US and sold through Yamaha Dealers as part of a "Yamaha" aftermarket catalog. This was and still is a common business practice. Yamaha USA would typically solicit and vet aftermarket products then handle sales and distribution through their parts network. If you have the disk brake parts, instructions then as a complete kit it would have the highest value. It's a small market because most don't "get" the provenance, Joe bystander is going to think; nice restored XS650 why did the guy put mags on it???
