Wow that looks like a great event! The vintage scene is sorely lacking here in Az. Although I did pass a Norton the other day when I was out riding, I was almost too shocked to wave! :laugh2:
It’s hard to get pics with the sun at such a low angle. There were about 85 motorcycles registered. The city of Vicksburg and local businesses paid for everything. Anyone who registered a bike got a free lunch at a neighborhood restaurant! Door prizes as well. It’s a 3.5 hour trip for us.

This is the courthouse that survived the siege of Vicksburg.

I got out yesterday for a 120 mile ride. I rode to the Buckeye Municipal Airport to see if there were any new WW2 warbirds hanging around, no luck, same ones there as last time.
So I headed past the town of Tonopah and the Palo Verde Nuclear power plant. From there I turned North and headed for the scenic part of the trip. The 50 mile ride through the Vulture Mountain range to the town of Wickenburg.

And of course, all roads lead to lunch! Mmmmm!

By the way, my bike has a bad habit of unscrewing both of the instrument cables. This has happened several times. Suddenly my speedo needle starts bouncing wildly then it quits working. Pull over to the side of the road, screw BOTH cables snug again and continue.

So, are you guys getting tired of rocks and cactus and open spaces yet? That’s pretty much the local scenery here. :laugh2:
Later,
Bob

Nope. Not tired of your scenery yet. I get a kick out of those funny "trees" with the arms... :wink2: You'll have to post more...
I know you went for originality, Bob, but what about tapping the screw caps for set screws? After tightening them, lock 'em down?... How often would you actually be removing them (for cable lubes?)? One little Allen set screw. Unless you'd be worried about buggering up the pot-metal threads on the backs of the instruments?... Gee...do these bikes shake that much?

Fine. Do it the easy way. I always seem to do everything the hard way. Locktite would certainly be less invasive (and virtually invisible). Just make sure you use the right color Locktite, so you won't need "the hot wrench" to remove them later... :wink2:

I’m actually thinking of putting a little lock tite on the threads.
Don't get me wrong, 'cause I'm a huge loctite fan... but in this case I'd recommend against it. Chances are that you'd destroy the nut if you ever had to disconnect a cable. Here's what I've had good luck with in somewhat similar situations... Clean the nut and cable real good with your solvent of choice and place a small dab of RTV that ties the nut and cable together. Think of a little triangle of grey RTV placed out of sight on the backside.... just a small wipe across the outside of the nut and cable end.... enough to join 'em together.
Like you said Bob... it's the frequency, there's very little turning force involved. And the RTV is easy to remove when you need to.

It never ceased to amaze me the crap a 650 can shake loose. One reason I have very few photos from that era. Camera killer. I still use a lens that has never been quite right after time on the 650. Love your photos from out west. Keep em coming. Nice to see you out riding instead of fretting over the details. Texans are big fans of the seguros.

My cables have vibed off a few times. I just place some rag in my pliers and nip them up no issues. On all of my bolts I use permatex aviation gasket stuff and have done for many many years. Just a small amount it never sets hard and cleans off easy but Loctite on critical parts
My old mechanical trade school teacher was ex RAAF flight technician and drummed a mentality into us dumb truck mechanics.." It's not like a plane can pull over to a cloud park and pop the hood. Everything has to be perfect..

Thanks for sharing Madmax-im! If you happen to remember, the next time your back that way, would you please take some close up shots that old tractor?
