Hi there!
I'm looking to get Yamaha XS650. I live in Portugal and these bikes seem to be quite rare over here. I could only find one for sale but it is in pretty bad state and my current situation means it's not practical to import a bike.
So, i'm looking for an XS650, any model or year, with the exception of the "special" models, with a running engine and a valid portuguese license plate.
PS:
About the bike i found.
It is a 1983 model, or so the seller claims (i'm not sure). It is running, but it smokes on one of the cylinders. The kickstart doesn't come back up, it leaks petrol from every gasket, the fuel tank is rusted, it's missing the side panels, the front and rear mudguards and indicators. The exhaust is dented, both foot pegs and the brake pedal are bent, handlebar is bent, front brake isn't connected and the grips are gone. The seat and frame look ok.
The guy wants 4000 euros for it.
Is it even worth it?

4,000 euros? That seems completely crazy, maybe 400 euros at the most. Sounds like its in bad condition but without knowing what the XS650 market is in Portugal first hand, I don't know what it's worth. I always say, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Everyone I talk to who visits Portugal loves it, I gotta get over there and see for myself. Would love to spot some XS650's too... Good luck.

4000 euros is way, way overpriced. But 400 would be underpriced, given that a bare engine in the UK goes for nearly double that. I'd say 1000 Euros at the absolute max ;-)

Considering the fact that it is the only one i can find for sale in the country, i would be willing to go has high as 1500-2000 euros, if the compression on the engine is fine. He initially wanted 4500 euros for it, but i got it down to 4000. I'm gonna look for local classic bike magazines, maybe i'll have better luck the old school way...

Crazy. Here in the States I bought ten xs650s for 3k USD. Extra motors and a truck load of parts too. Guy was a retired flat track racer.
