Miss November XS2 tribute

Easy enough to do, it's all been painted silver. I'll need to think whether to remove the silver or just leave it and paint over. But won't paint it till bracket welded on for brake arm.

I quite like the look of it silver!

If you don’t mind saying, how much did you pay for yours Raymondo?

Mine came from Norway and it worked out quite expensive by the time shipping and taxes were factored in.

Daniel, the swing arm came from Germany so shipping pushed the price up to £130-odd. At least HMRC didn't ask for a slice too.

Living in a remote place like the Borders, you never find anything local and postage always puts the price up. Some couriers are starting to charge more for delivery to Scotland - but it's even worse if you live in the Highlands & Islands.

I can’t remember exactly how much I paid all-in but I think it was pretty close the to what you paid?

How did you track yours down? I joined the TX750 owners group on Facebook, going to look for a rear axle & spacers next.

The rear axle and sprocket side spacer/dust cover are no different than the 650 parts but I think the right side spacer by the brake plate is nicer, it's chrome .....

By comparison, the 650 one is just cad plated .....

But this won't apply to you guys with disc rear brakes, you don't have that right side spacer.

Would like to have wire-spoked wheels. But I don't know how much the change would end up costing, or even whether would find the necessary bits in Britain. So I'll run with what is there for the foreseeable future.

At the moment, just looking forward to being able to run the bike at all.

Have spent too much time searching on ebay, Google, Amazon for a suitable master cylinder. Why are computers so stupid? You search for front brake master cylinder but it helpfully brings up rears too. Loads of cheap Chinese master cylinders. Probably not correct mirror thread. State it's for Yamaha and suddenly shows you drum kits instead. Doh.

Today, finally bought brand new master cylinder and brake lever for RD250. 1/2" piston, correct mirror thread, brake light switch, should be ok. Might buy a single line and omit the union at the bottom yoke. I'll decide once everything pulled apart. Will have a better idea what else is needed then.

Yep...unless you plan to use a second caliper, there's really no reason NOT to go with one solid line...and it might as well be a braided line since they can be found for cheap.

Hi Brassneck,
stock lever with double length banjo bolt & a full length stainless brake line to each caliper works perfect on my dual disked Heritage Special.
I found that the stock fabric lines are WAY too bulge-prone to work nice with dual disks.

Ah...ya, I see you're point...So the union joint really isn't necessary in any scenario...unless you're looking for a historically correct build or something.

I'm hoping that with new master cylinder, with 12.7mm piston, serviced caliper, new pads if needed, compound tbd, single brake line, one good disc, new brake fluid and properly bled I should have enough brakes. If I still want more - and I probably won't - there's future upgrade paths like more modern multi-piston caliper and more modern floating disc. The various Buell's I owned were all single disc and they never felt lacking in the brakes department. So I don't intend to go for twin discs.

The various supermotos I've played with all had single disc and none of them lacked brakes! In fact, you could do stoppies with two fingers on the lever. Mind you, not a fair comparison as a good supermoto weighs hardly more than a good snot.

Drill your disc, that helps too, as I discovered last summer on my new-to-me 650. On my other one, I never ran anything but a drilled disc from the start so had nothing to compare it to. On this new bike, I ran it about a season with the stock undrilled disc, then swapped on a drilled one. It made a difference, an improvement.

Fitted this master cylinder & brake lever, bought from MCP, don't know if the link will work?

Sold by them for RD250LC.

Front brake seems a bit spongy with this set-up - like there's air in the system - so I'll try replacing that white plastic plug with a braided brake line. LOL

At least it has a smaller diameter piston. And a Yamaha mirror thread. And the lever is a good match too so quite pleased.

That should work well for you. I fitted a used Yamaha 1/2" MC to my '83 and yours looks to be an exact copy of it .....

And for lower than stock bars, a 90cm long line works perfectly .....

I've always found this single disc set-up adequate enough. I've had to do a couple panic stops with it and the fact that I'm still here to tell you about it sort of proves that point. I had that front tire howling and just short of locking up, which is about the best braking you can get. Not sure I'd want it much better because then I probably would have locked up the front wheel, lol.

In line with plans to go for the XS2 look:

Done to my spec by very obliging vinylcutuk for a very reasonable price - I have no connection with the company. Nice domed gel finish and flexible so should be easy to fit.

Now all I need is to get the restored tank back. And then have it painted.

And then start the bike. And then start to fettle . . .
Raymond,
Could you give me the dimensions you ordered these decals in? I just sent Vinylcutuk an email asking if they can do these in silver. Providing they can, I like the size you chose. Thanks.

Just been out and measured - 134 x 54 mm. Hopefully, vinylcutzuk will still have the pattern on their computer.

They already advertised similar style badges, in various colours but smaller size. To get the dimensions, I printed a stock photo of an XS2, measured the badge size in the print and compared to other sizes such as the overall length of the tank and the width of the head fins, then scaled up. The result looks about right.

The guy from vinylcutzuk apologised that he would have to charge more for the one-off!

Looks as though the international postage could be expensive. We could look at me buying badges for you and posting them on as a private letter?

Yesterday, took XS650 calendar to the painter. I think he was amazed to see his handiwork featured!

While I was there, gave him the XS750 headlamp shell and asked him to apply the same orange as the rest of the metalwork.

Motivation becomes a problem while the weather is miserable. Must get out to the garage and see what else I can get on with . . .
